That looks suspiciously like a Yamaha outer fork leg. Maybe RD400 or something about that size that ran a single disc setup?

Re: Angle Plate - Step Block Maker?

I have a set of 1-2-3 blocks in a similar box (smaller 4.5 x 4 x 1.5 in) w/ similar image of the product that was inside. The mfg is Finn. https://www.finntool.com/ Their products page does not show your step block however. EDIT: I see someone above called out Fisher Machine. I believe that is corre...

Re: Eyeglass worn with mask fog getter ridder of-er

A quick & EZ fix for fogging glasses w/ a mask is to wipe a film of soap on your glasses. I just take a drop of clear liquid soap, rub between two fingers, apply the soap to both sides of each lenses. Then remove any excess/dry w/ lense cloth or kleenex tissue. I'm good for the day. If all you h...

Re: Ellis dividing head collets

With a name like morsetaper2, I guess he would be the expert. Steve Expert I am not! :-) Just sharing my experience. I use to have a BS9 dividing head. I saw a 5C capable div hd in use and the light bulb went on. I had to have one. There are a few of them out there, but uncommon. Ellis, Elgin, Hard...

Re: Ellis dividing head collets

As said above, they use a drawbar. Could be constructed from something as simple as 1/2-13 all thread or a bolt washer setup. Or a more nicely designed setup w/ a thrust washer. The downside of BS9 collets versus 5C, is that material cannot pass thru the collet. BS9 collets were intended to be tool ...

Re: Analog vs digital micrometers

I imagine a quality digital mic, like a Mitutoyo, would provide superior readings to the fourth and fifth decimal places. I prefer the analog mics. Anybody can take a mic that measures to 4 or 5 decimal places and get a measurement. But how accurate will that measurement be? At 4 and 5 decimal plac...

Re: Micrometer accuracy in use

To the OP I totally know where you are coming from, been there. Trying to repeatably measure to .0001 increments can be tough to do as was said previously. I was able to get decent consistency by in getting my mics calibrated by getting a micrometer stand and handling the mic and part to be mic'd as...

The best way to get rid of a hornets nest is to close a briefcase around the nest. Then leave the briefcase at a busy street corner. Park nearby and watch the fun.
