Re: Got tired of my chineese milling

You didn't say what Chinese mill you had? There are Chinese mills and then there are "real" Chinese mills. If you try to take a big cut out of steel on any mill not designed for it the head is going to flex and you are going to have chatter. Just saying.

Re: "Select" milling machine

"Select" was probably a vendor that sold that particular machine; one of many or several. Watch ebay and craigslist and other sites with machines for sale until you see an identical machine by another name and then obtain a manual for THAT machine if they are available. Gave it to you huh?...

Re: Clausing 8520 or Sieg X3?

You are aware are you not that Grizzly, Wholesale tools, and Harbor Freight sell Chinese copies of the Clausing 8520 that run on 220, some 110/220 switchable. I have one and feel it is a good machine. I would have preferred a Clausing but none ever popped up near enough for me to go see exactly what...

Re: Choice Between These Two Mills

I would recommend considering a Clausing 8520/30 clone which is a knee mill; they are commonly referred to as 6x26 mills and
weigh 600-800 lbs. so are in between the two you are considering. Harbor Freight and Wholesale Tools carry them as does Grizzly.

base for milling head on G9729 3 in 1

I would like to remove the head on my Grizzly 9729 and put it on a dedicated milling base; has anyone done this and if so where did you get the base. I only mill and turn small components with this machine and it does what I need, but I am tired of switching back and forth setting it up for milling,...

I like you began restoring old cars when I retired in 2000. To support my habit I started restoring AFB carburetors for people and remanufacturing I guess you could say early 60s dual quad setups. Primarily to produce linkage components I bought one of the larger 3 in 1 machines Grizzly sells. In ad...

Thanks for the site and suggestion Bill. I looked at all of the RC items I could find and did not see exactly what I need. I did see one wire connector that was very much like it but would require some machining, but I would not have to start from scratch, and I will obtain some of those if I can't ...

name of square brass fitting on carburetor choke arm

I restore carburetors and need some of the square brass wire clamps like the one shown on the choke arm in the attached picture. I have been getting them from Holley Carburetor but they went to round brass stock which is not correct for the old carburetors I work on. My problem is I do not know the ...

You could reface valves with it; five angle valve jobs dead on the money (or three angle, two angle whatever your thing or need). For that reason alone I may have to make one of those.

Good job!

I did exactly what Goodfellow did and used an engine hoist with a load leveler. I used long bolts through the holes in the bed at each end, and put washers on both ends (and a nut on the threaded end of course) so if the thing started tipping during the process the chains would not slip off the end ...

I am new to machining too and am therefore certainly no machinist. About nine months ago I bought a used Grizzly G9729 3 in 1 machine with a lot of tooling for less than the machine alone sells for now. I got it off of one of these boards and saved a bundle. I needed a few items and had to contact G...
