Re: Nelsons Locomotive Works

I also used the original design of Nelson's pumps. I recall him saying that he would make a few changes himself such as not making them compound on the steam end. I changed a lot of things from his original plans such as scale, valve design, etc. For those interested here is the link to what I came ...

The one I bought several years ago is from Gordon Briggs (timbercreekrr@yahoo.com]. Not sure he still makes them.

Re: Nelson Reidel

I corresponded with Nelson a few years back (2017) when I was looking to build some pumps. He mentioned that he also had some issues with his design of the compound air pumps running reliably, and that if he had to do it over, he would probably make them "simplex". I took his advice and an...

Re: Westinghouse Pump Lubrication

I made two Westinghouse Cross compound air pumps. The steam side is not compounded but the air side is. I use hydrostatic lubricators for the steam side using steam oil. I squirt some pneumatic oil in the air filter to lubricate the air side of the pump before each run. Both pumps have been working ...

Re: Mission Impossible - Designing and Constructing a 3/4" Scale Westinghouse Cross Compound Air Compressor

Richard - Thank you for the reference to my build of the Westinghouse pump. I do mention on the website that my pump design is NOT a true cross compound pump (at least on the steam side). The air side is compounded. I made this decision after discussions with others who built similar pumps. My pumps...

Re: pneumatic bell ringer

You can try making one that I designed and published on my web site. It is a finicky bugger to say the least. It has to be perfectly balanced. Mine has been working flawlessly after spending countless hours fine tuning it. There are only a few parts but it's simplicity is deceiving. If you want to g...

Re: Are dynamos too noisy?

I have 3 working turbos on my Daylight. They are VERY noisy. Just running one will drive you nuts with the high pitched whining.

Re: Steam Pump need help identifying

Don't know if this will help. The link provided shows how I modified Nelson Riedel's Steam pump to a 1.5" scale and eliminated the compounding on the steam side. I also have a section which explains how the pump works. Been playing around with Fusion 360 and almost finished modeling it in 3D. O...
