Re: steam/airpump question
It will keep running, but not produce more pressure. We're regulating it with a ball valve to keep speed reasonable. If I place a finger over intake, it will cause the pump to stall, indicating that the rings are not passing-by.

Re: steam/airpump question
Bill,
yes, when coupled directly to a gauge, no pressure.
one pump, on the bench, produced about 30# when pumping into a vessel with a gauge.
the owner/builder says they did operate well enough (at one time) to charge a reservoir, for essentially, an emergency brake application (independent brake).

Re: steam/airpump question
Bill, valves were recently replaced.
Pumps only intended for engine brakes. But still not enough volume or pressure.
Just wondering if anyone has had any success with this type set-up.
Thanks, Jim

steam/airpump question
A friend has a 1-1/2" (7-1/4) 2-8-4. It has two Van Broklin design steam operated air pumps for brakes. The check valves are umbrella valves (flexible plastic valves, like in a Holley carburetor). There is no significant air pressure from these pumps. They operate fine, but don't move much air....

Re: ISO 0-4-0 1.5" 7.25"
I use the same Harbor Freight lift for my 1-1/2 Mercer 0-4-0 (fitted with angle iron for rails). But, I must add that I agree with the sentiment about how much fun and how practical high-line engines are. I have two of them. relatively affordable and tranportable. LILS has a really nice high line tr...
