Re: Flat belt tension?
Hi Randy,
You're welcome and thank you! Mine has a big lever with a turnbuckle to adjust the tension...a little later model, I think.

Re: Flat belt tension?
You're most welcome, Randy, I hope it helped more than hurt. The only reason I DON'T covet your taper attachment is because it won't fit MY machine, so I've deided to covet your whole setup instead...nice.

Re: Flat belt tension?
Hi Randy, Nice looking Star! It's different from mine, but there are universal similarities I can help you with a little bit. For example, that 3-position knob you're wondering about connects the spindle to the lead screw or not. In the middle position, the lead screw is DISengaged...only the spindl...

Re: Smokebox Throttle Valves
>P.S.: What, if any, benefits are there in having more main valves in the throttle? I think it would be to effect finer control, but the sizes of the valves, or more accurately, the opening exposed with each valve, would have to be carefully calculated so you wouldn't hit the maximum size with the f...

Re: Smokebox Throttle Valves CAMS/POPPETS
Back in the later 70's I had the pleasure of working on an ATSF 2900 series Northern, which continues to lanquish in a local park. In order to hydro the boiler, the throttle had to be rebuilt. Removing the cover revealed a line of poppets, about six, plus a smaller 'pilot' valve for the initial crac...

Re: Track Work
Here at the Break Time Railroad in Modesto, in the armpit of California, we use 1/2" x 1" HRS on edge, welded apart with steel gauge bars, which have been pre-drilled to attach to plastic ties every two feet or so. We used to use wood 2x2 with grooves, simply glued under the rails, but the...

Re: Our Gang Start a Live Steam Club - 1924
Oh that was FUN!! I too grew up on the Little Rascals and Our Gang shorts, but I'd never seen that one before. I posted it to my favorite Livesteamer's outfit, and it was very well recieved...thanks, Jim!

Re: Painting hardware
I know a lot of people who swear by this stuff, and none who swear AT it:

Their products aren't cheap, but I've used several with excellent results.
Hope that helps,

Re: What scale is my locomotive?
I agree that letters should be left for 'spark trains', and I certainly wouldn't tell anybody I was in 'X' scale (that'd be snob-like) but, having seen that list on a site somewhere, I was hoping someone might have seen and saved it. When asked, I always say 'Inch-and-a-half', which tells both the g...
