Re: Steam Dome Ball Valve Throttle

No, I would not consider tack welding that nut. I've never had one get loose at all, much less come off. If it did, I'd simply put the quadrant into neutral and come to a stop. To me, being able to change this out quickly and easily in the steaming bay is one of the design features, so I wouldn't w...

Re: Steam Dome Ball Valve Throttle

Never did connect compressed air to the throttle valve or that pipe. I simply used a piece of brass pipe above the throttle so that the inlet collected steam about 1" or so below the top of the dome so that there wouldn't be as much water getting into it. There are two vertical holes in the bl...

Re: Steam Dome Ball Valve Throttle

So the dark color pipe is the inlet to the steel manifold for steam (up in the steam dome to limit water splash into the dry pipe). The brass pipe with the throttle in it, Where/what connects to it, to run steam to the steam chest/cylinders? I think some here are assuming the throttle TOP is the inl...

Re: Hydrostatic Lubricator

My understanding is that this type lubricator should only be used with non-emulsifying oil (?) Nope... it needs to be an emulsifying oil. Otherwise, as a non-emulsifying oil it would have to be pushed along as droplets with the steam and would only dribble into the steam chest and have to build up ...

Re: Hydrostatic Lubricator

Hydrostatic lubrication has more to do with how the lubricant does it job. Hydrostatic supplies the oil under pressure to the interface of two items to force the oil between them .. Basically floating one surface above another by supplying the oil faster to the interface than it can escape from the ...

Re: Hydrostatic Lubricator

Interesting, I did a web search (duckduckgo) for the differences between them and found this:

An answer right here on this board! :-)

Edit: Maybe that is more of a non-answer!

Re: Hydrostatic Lubricator

There is no piston in his. Just a tank with fill and drain ports and a single pipe in the top (top of the end in this case) where steam comes in, condenses, sinks to the bottom, displacing oil to force it out the same pipe. No moving parts.
