Re: "Catherine", a USA "Sweet Pea" engine build

The crossheads still needed to be drilled in the front and tapped to accept the piston rods. We had made those rods about four years ago and intentionally left them oversize in length. By now the engine had started to develop it “own individuality” and by that I mean that things weren’t built perfec...

Re: "Catherine", a USA "Sweet Pea" engine build

The connecting (drive) rods were machined in much the same way as the coupling rods, except that one end had a piece of steel with a bushing pressed in to ride around the gudgeon pin in the crosshead. Welding was pretty straightforward, and commercial bronze bushings are great though after pressing ...

Re: "Catherine", a USA "Sweet Pea" engine build

Over the past few months work has progressed but I don't have much to show for it. The weighshaft itself is just a length of 1/2" diameter of steel rod. The rod fit into the support brackets nicely without binding or slop. I drilled very tiny holes partway into the rod (they look like little dimples...

My three yokes that I ordered came in the mail promptly. And they are even brown like I requested. Thanks!

If you ever go to the National Railway Museum in York (UK), in the back warehouse there are 1000's of unfinished 'dream locos' donated by widows and families....and very few of these are larger that 1" scale Pacifics.
You wouldn't happen to have a picture of that, would you?

Re: Tom bee

I didn't start the thread but I certainly posted my thoughts on Tom Bee. I said before, and continue to say, that they make outstanding trucks and great couplers. I just didn't like being told multiple times ship dates that were incorrect. At this point, I have nothing else to say negative towards T...

Re: Getting ahold of Cannonball

They said they did. They weren't in my regular or junk email folders. Thus, I have no idea. Their answering machine also seemed to work some times, and other times it just rang and rang. Again, I have no idea.

Re: Getting ahold of Cannonball

To complete the circle, Cannonball emailed me yesterday that they were mailing the part. From what I understand from talking with them, they had the castings in stock for what I wanted (the headlight) but I asked for a custom number and I bought the assembled headlight. The total turnaround time fro...

Cut some slack... yes. But, if you can't deliver next week then don't tell the customer you will deliver "next week." And certain don't do it week after week.
