Re: How not to Ship a Motor
I fail to see a problem here. That mounting fix is a no-brainer. The shaft is running with no apparent run-out damage. Where is the urge to sell it?

Re: Are belt sanders useful??
It's an actual leather belt, just like a normal sanding belt. http://www.ebay.com/itm/182209354827?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT The compound is more of a polishing material rather than something measured in grit. I have played around with the various colors, but I s...

Re: Are belt sanders useful??
I have a 1 X 42 Burr King and in addition to general shop work, it is also one of the finest knife sharpeners you can get your hands on. I use 800 grit and a leather belt with compound. You can blow through a handful of kitchen knives in a matter of minutes. Makes you take a long, hard look at that ...

Re: How Risky are Old Surface Grinders?
After my 30 years in St. Pete, Fl, I discovered basements in Florida were rather problematic.....i.e. not a good idea.

Re: How Risky are Old Surface Grinders?
Steve, I would give serious thought to a SG. As Tim says, once you have one, you begin to realize how useful it can be. As for grit.....yes, it can be a problem. If you can't get it in an enclosed room of its own, then certainly avoid putting it next to your lathe or mill. On that note, I would say ...

Would anybody have any objection to single pointing the initial thread close and then finishing with a die?

Great post, Don, and I appreciate your expertise and time to explain.
Now......for those surface grinder owners that do not have the luxury of an Electro Mag Chuck, will the residual of a PM be sufficient?

Re: Grinding End Mills at Home
I was fortunate enough to have a friend that was hell bent on having one in his commercial shop, one way or the other. He scored, then told me was dragging it up to my place for the weekend to learn how to use it. Naturally, I resisted profusely, but finally gave in. His shop is only four hour...

Steve You suffer from a serious disease. It's called " I want to do it myself " syndrome. I know, 'cause I'm a chronic case, and fortunately, there is a cure.....buy the tools. I had the pleasure of using a Darex E-90 in my shop for a weekend, and it causes incurable addiction. It costs a ...

Steve,
You're in Florida. I remember my 30 years in St. Pete very well. You can watch PVC rust, if you're bored enough.
