Re: Question about coal

I use what is sold as blacksmith coal and works good in my engine. You might call ahead to see if they are open on a holiday weekend.

Re: Suspension problems

There was an article in Modeltec October 1996 "Hanson Booster Truck" by Thomas Patton, on how to put a chain drive on a trailing truck. It gives the calculations for sprocket size for wheel sizes.

Re: Kick-Switches

The Iowa Model Steam Engineers use kick switches. They are simple but I don't have a very close picture. We also add an electrical conduit and a kick at both ends so you can come up to a switch and throw it without getting off your engine.

John thank you for checking. I think I have the picture and data. I will try to draw something up from the picture above and the general data.

Re: 1 inch Ten Wheeler - North American Live Steamer March 1956

This is a 4-6-0 for the KVRR and #6. I have been told this is in the 1930 Locomotive Cyclopedia. Could someone with this book make a scan of the side elevation for me?

Our club uses the Tom Bee compressor unit on our club cars with great results. It powers breaks for four cars.

Re: Whistles

November/December 1992 of Live Steam has an article called Whistle Clinic. This has symptoms then tells why it happens. I have used this article to help improve the sound of a whistle.

Re: 3-1/2" OS Porter Live steam need help

There are good videos on You Tube. Here are a couple from the steam channel. They are a different scale but the principles are the same.

Re: Push/pull control cables?

I used a choke cable from the local auto store on my cylinder cocks for my Mogul. This works great for me.
