Re: 0-8-0 switcher

Don't blame the guy who went out of business because not enough guys bought his product when he was serving a niche market to begin with. i was paging through some old issues of Model Railroader Aagazin and was amazed as to how the hobby and modeling has devolved.

The postal service is a "Service" If you don't fund it you don't get the service. The USPS is making money, quite a bit, however there is no other government agency where the agency must fund fund the pensions of its employees. The military certainly doesn't. BTW, is politics not off limit...

I guess if you are a trained machinist with a fountain of knowledge and experience to draw on you can get deviate from recommended practice. I started out with flame cut frame that was Blanchard ground to thickness. First thing I did was pin them together with hardened .250 pins. Then I milled the t...

I assume one of the foundries is Grassmayr in Innsbruck. They have been around since 1599. They are located in Wilten across the station for the Stubaitalbahn. www.Grassmayr.at. I used to have a contact 45 yrs ago. Don't know any one there today.

Try covering you BBQ with a welders blanket. I have used one with great success cooking Christmas dinner on the grill in minus degree temps. It might burn the paint off the grill though.

Re: whistles
Many pipe organs do not have all the necessary pipes to sound the notes required. Many times, the fundamental pipe will be missing, especially when there are budgetary constraints or space issues. When the organist plays a particular note, usually in the lowest stop of the lower registers in the ped...

steam dome dry pipe shut off valve
Has anyone gone through the trouble of installing a working dry pipe shut off valve in the steam dome of a live steam locomotive? (1.6" scale) I assume they were used in the prototype to allow work on a smoke box throttle or superheater header with the boiler under steam. It could be useful in ...
