Re: Belt squeal
Jacin- I agree- probably the belt. The tensioner is on the slack side, doesn't have to be great. A few years ago the auto warehouse I worked for switched from Dayco to Goodyear, and EVERY darn Goodyear belt I installed squeeled, no matter how tight it was. Try a different brand, maybe even a Ford or...

Re: Valve Guide Material?
Are oversize OD guides available? That would be the easiest. I have a customer that gets his Royal Enfield parts from a guy in Texas, maybe you know of the place. Second easiest would be to modify a shelf guide, by looking at size specs in the back of a valve guide book. It would probably be availab...

Re: Best way for Cutting/Milling
I'd rather take a litle extra time and cut the stuff than wait a nother week and a half to get a couple peices of metal
That's what they made the internet, charge cards, and Federal Express for! LOL
Good luck. (I don't mean that sarcasticly!)

Re: Best way for Cutting/Milling
I agree with Jacin- that would be lots of wasted time, more than I have anyway... maybe someone can post the link of the online CRS supplier that sells small quantities.

Re:melting aluminum-
That's interesting that you list extrusions, I know I read somewhere that that person felt they were no good, but I trust your experience with this. Hanz

Re:melting aluminum-
Sooo...to cut down on R&D time...is there a short list of 'desirable scrap,' as well as undesirable?

Re:melting aluminum-
Another question- As I machine different aluminum pieces, it is quite obvious the different qualities in them, I believe mainly due to different silicon (sp?) content. Now, I don't even know what I plan to cast in the future, I would guess maybe self designed (large model) engine components, but is ...

Re:melting aluminum-
Hey Harold- As I stockpile various scrap aluminum for the future,I have wondered if there is a problem with aluminum that has spent several years bathed in oil. I'm talking about cylinder head parts , etc. One guy recommended used transmission cases. If these parts are cleaned first (hot tanked, gla...

CNC/Engraving question
I am thinking about having my shop logo engraved into a couple aluminum plates, size about 3"x10". I might even inquire here about interested parties. Plan is to then fill the recessed areas with paint. My question is, how do you handle the inside corners (say of a letter), to keep them sq...

Re: O. T. question
Bad exhaust manifolds.
Bad exhaust valve guides. The exhaust valve guide runs through the water jacket to cool the valve stem, and it is VERY common for the seawater to rust right through them.
