A virtual tour
Here's a virtual tour of Train Mountain Railroad in Oregon. As part of our museum function, when the weather is good, we give Rail Tours that can last over an hour. However when the weather is 'winter' we needed a way to showcase the park to our many visitors. We are open year round regardless of th...

Re: Comments on train unloading facilities
We modified a Harbor Freight cycle lift to use at the mini unload yard at Appendix. In the photo the bottom right photo shows how we extended the base be about 18 inches. This particular lift is good for about 500 pounds. Russ

Re: Electric drive locomotives
Another excellent source of goodies is: https://electricscooterparts.com/ Your advantage in your restoration is going to be you have a lot of room for batteries. As a 'general' rule of thumb, a 36v motor will operate more efficiently than a 24v or 12v motor. Make sure the motor controller is heavy d...

Re: Painting graphics on plywood - advice
When doing stenciling over a wood base I use a very, very light coat of rattle can CLEAR to help seal the edge of the stencil. Let that dry a little then do whatever color paint method you like. If there is ANY bleed under the stencil edge it will be CLEAR. Russ

Six more days
Only six more days until the 2019 Operations Meet begins (June 29, 2019). Several more industries, lots more cars, and the rumor mill says the weather will be nice too! Look forward to seeing you there. Russ @ Train Mountain.

Re: New tool for Train Mountain
This week is the Narrow Gauge meet and we have a bunch of steamers from Wa. Check the pix on the website, you might recognize a few of them. Should be fun. So far we have had wind, rain, snow, and some sunshine. It is always 'interesting' this time of year. Thanks for your comments. Russ

Re: New tool for Train Mountain
Actually that is on the ver 1.1 list! We have some minor tweaks regarding (are you ready for this?) making sure that the stabilizer pads FIT through the tunnels! :D There needs to be stops on the end of the rails (duh!). We think we might stiffen the truck springs just a little, etc. It's a fun proj...

Re: New tool for Train Mountain
Nicely done. It sure saves wear and tear on the switch and the 'crew'! Some of our switches that are being replaced / installed are several miles from the main area so doing things by train adds to the 'fun' of working oops volunteering here! Russ

New tool for Train Mountain
Those of you that have helped with track work knew how difficult and how heavy moving turnouts can be. Also some of 'us' are getting up there in years. So with that in mind and a prototype to trigger the design urge, we built a new tool for the track gang's use at TM. The inspiration and the tool. h...

Re: Waterproof Glue For A Coal Load
Just thinking out loud here, but what about that liquid rubber stuff Flex Seal I've seen on TV. Pour a little in the space and then add the coal. Then give the coal a little downward pressure to set in the goo. I would also go to their website and see if they have some thinner and that would aid in ...

There is also the option of infrared detection. To warrant clearance make two circuits, Set them up as a trigger on, then at the other end set trigger off. Russ
