Re: Selling Machine Tools?

As with all life decisions, we must plan for our exit. Please plan so your loved ones do not have to guess what you want. If you live long you get to watch every one die. I have had the honor of disposing of many of my friends and family belongings. My wife and I have a detailed will. My shop and li...

Re: Taper attachment info for DL 1860

Thanks Glenn, I hope to find a taper attachment to fit, the Enco part won't bolt up but could be adapted as with the steps you described. Thanks for your help.

Taper attachment info for DL 1860

I recently took over a machine shop. Shortly before my arrival a lathe marked Birmingham with the above model # was set up. The boxed taper attachment found behind it is for a 22 inch Enco. I need a taper attachment. The lathe cross screw doesn't extend beyond the slide like a SB so I expect to have...

Re: Reaming vs. Drilling Holes In Tube Sheets

After all the welding ream the holes 5/8 you will faint when you see how out of round K wall is slightly deburr the holes so the flues press in without scoring the tube wall. place all the copper tubes in the freezer and run them out to the tubesheet one at a time. Have a rod in the tubesheets to he...

Re: A question

My first step is make a plug to fit the rough cyl. bore and extend proud as tall as your mill will allow. Jack shim and clamp to produce the best x-y you can get. Face the cylinder and get a quick bore scribe a light center line for the bore x-y. Repeat for the Left side (right is always my first). ...

Re: RRSC 4-4-0 Boiler Lagging

If you need some asbestos I have a respectable quantity of NOS on hand. The ceramic is with out a doubt the best to use, the heat transfer is zero. I doubt I'll ever use anything else since I've tried everything I've heard of so far. As for handling the mystery material control the dust bag it and d...

Re: How to Store Superglue?

Well Before this discussion gets any farther a slightly off topic addition: I have had to use super glue in the past to glue/repair deep cuts in my hands. Super glue burns worse than that red stuff our parents held us down as a tag team to treat wounds we got as a kid. Crazy Glue is what you want to...
