Re: Wheels under a mill drill?

I mounted mine on a Grizzly adjustable frame with casters I did this as well on my small Grizzly G3103 Mill. Very solid, easy to move when I want to move it. Putting the 1,000 lb. mill on this base was a bit of a chore for on old man. Lots of cribbing, jacks and the like. Slid the base under the mi...

Re: What tools should I have?

What would be an acceptable set of blocks that are sold by online tool suppliers, like Travers, MMC, MSC, etc? I'm thinking an 81 block set. Without getting into the "Grade" rating of gauge blocks, I find that the shop grade ones work very well for my needs. Shop grade is accurate to +/- .0001" Dav...

Re: What tools should I have?

What tools should I have? When I was young I could not afford the tools I needed to accomplish the things my young mind could think to do. As a result, the work was poor, sometimes just patched or rigged to work and so on. As I grew older I began to buy tools that I need to perform a certain task. ...

Re: Let us discuss

All I have to say is I wonder how many lines of code and who coded it. Not to worry, if memory serves me I think it was modeled in Fusion 360 (a 3 D Cad program that also does the G-code) So yea, lots of lines of code but not done by hand. I use Fusion 360 as well and I love it. I take a print, dra...

Re: Let us discuss

I would not be too quick to assume that NYCCNC's machining is self-sustaining. Don't forget his rather large You Tube income, his sponsors and so on. I'm not to sure he has to make much of anything! As far as the engine in the video.. I think that was just a demonstration of what they could do with...

Re: Diagnosing a Milling Machie problem

I'm trying to mill a part with a 4 flute 5/8" diameter end mill mounted in an R8 collet. That seems a bit odd given the size of the end mill. I'd start with cleaning the inside of the collet that holds the end mill and also the top portion of the end mill as well. I've pulled a few .375" end mills ...

"Okay, that's neat, but is it really efficient?"

Re: Let us discuss

I have my thoughts, but I'd love to hear yours!!! Ok, fair enough! I've followed NYCCNC for a lot of years. He started out in his apartment with a very small machine but he was able to get vendors to support his habit well enough to move to some very nice machines. I'm not even sure how he pulled i...

Re: Thanksgiving Day

It is a regular weekly event that four of our generations (18 in all) get together for breakfast on Saturday mornings. We are blessed that our last living parent, all our kids as well as grandkids live within 15 miles of us. Awesome and rare these days! The older I get the more I appreciate family....

The scale is so good you'd think it is a full size train with some giant people on it!

Why is it that if you have any opening in the floor, a dropped object will most always roll toward it? Or into it?

Re: Choosing an end mill for the job

SFM which is stated as a constant for both end mills. Correct, the SFM would be the same for both end mills! However, the chip load can be larger for the bigger end mill as the flute depth is deeper. I do most of my work with my CNC mill and I use the largest cutter I can to remove chips as fast as...
