Re: 1" scale GG-1

The GG-1 is one of my favorite locomotives! I’m looking forward to your updates on this project. Some day, I hope to build a “Lionel” (shortened version) in 7.5 gauge. I always wanted one of those as a kid and never got one.

Our track plan was not in the park’s original master plan but they decided to re-do their pan around our track. The terrain is relatively flat with a stream running thru the property and a combination of develop...

Test day at the park!
I took my loco out and got a chance to run it for the first time. Because this is an inexpensive loco, it caught the interest of a few of the younger club members. Below is a photo of one operating the loco.

It’s been a long time since I have posted, but I have been very busy during that time. The photos below will attest to that! http://www.mylargescale.com/1stclass/rangerjoel/Large%20Scale%20Porter/close%20to%20done/drive%20gear%202.JPG http://www.mylargescale.com/1stclass/rangerjoel/Large%20Scale%20P...

More progress has been made. I built a number plate out of a candle holder that I picked up at the good will store for $1 and a house number that I got at my local hardware store. I also received a set of wheels from RMI the other day for the construction of the trailing truck. The wheels were aroun...

Hi all, I have a lot of progress to report today. To start with, I was able to put my milling machine to work building some dogs for the front of the smoke box. WOW, what a difference it makes having a good tool to work with! Below is a photo of the finished dogs in place. http://www.mylargescale.co...

For Valentine’s Day my wife gave me an air nibbler from harbor freight. Clearly, she still loves me…but wants me out of the house. http://www.mylargescale.com/1stclass/rangerjoel/Large%20Scale%20Porter/nibbler.JPG I was able to put it to good use and did a lot of sheet metal work over the past few w...

A little more progress to report on the Porter. The bearing blocks are in place complete with springs and the motor mounts have been fabricated and installed. This locomotive will be powered by two bicycle motors from electricscooterparts.com. I should have a running chaises very soon. http://www.my...
