Re: Always check your switch points and target....
While targets maybe helpful, I don't ever trust they are correct.. thevswitch points ,and points alone dictate if you are lined for your intended movement or not. A fee things happened with the Strasburgh incident. The biggest I can see was a lack of communication between the MOWcrew and train crew....

Re: 3-1/2" Gaugers - Smokebox Access
I have seen all sorts of securement. Simple is best. As Keith Taylor mentioned a good snug push fit works fine . My 0-4-0 has that set up.my consolidation has two 2/56 screws at 3 and 9 o'clock. An unfinished pacific has scale hinges that allow the whole smoke box front to open . Whichever you decid...

Re: Clausing 5914 spindle removal
Thanks Pete, I have the manual with exploded diagrams . There is only one set screw and two different sized keys. I've gotten it apart, and going to replace the bearings. There are alot of things on this machine that are not mentioned in the manual.
Thanks for the replies and help.

Clausing 5914 spindle removal
I am working on a clausing 5914, and have gone through everything but the spindle. Im looking for info on how others have gotten the spindle out. The gears in the headstock do not move on the spindle once the set screw is removed .. any info would be greatly appreciated!

Holt was an interesting guy. He supplied brass rail and finished locomotives only from what I have heard. Many high ranking New Haven and New York Central brass hats came to his estate in Greenwich CT to ride behind his locomotives. There is also an interlocking on the Shoreline named.... Holt..

Re: fun
We may never know the exact true story, but The Joytown engine was the chassis in The Friends Catalog. There were castings to my recollection still with the Friends collection while Dick Boucheron owned it. Those may have been the other 2. There were allegedly copper boilers being built in England f...

Re: fun
Well, here's another scenario. Lester Friend purchased an unfinished chassis and patterns made bu Friend. That chassis was the Joytown railroad Hudson that ran at the Topsfield Fair in Topsfield Mass. The loco changed hands, ended up with Mr.Barclay , I believe . It ,along with Maxhimers Atlantic be...
