Well Glenn ,the Bellevue and Cascade Railroad was a 3 foot Narrow Gauge in Iowa with 36 miles of track! No he is not hand-feeding he using the power feed only I have personally helped him do hundreds of them I was there as a witness I cringed when he did it he said it would be fine

That's not necessarily true about the innards being for 3/8 holes only my friend wood regularly drills with a carbide tipped drill 3/4" cast iron buns 7/8 stainless steel bongs by the thousands and no pilot hole and still going strong

The Little Mill that you found is a similar size to a clausing mill a friend of mine had one and loved it his was the e n c o version, I think for space the round column from Harbor Freight a good choice for you, but it is possible to find single phase Bridgeport mills, I own four of them all single...

Harbor Freight has a round column one for the lowest price you can even get a! 20% off the price coupon, 99% of those little Mills are made from the same castings! But I found a beautiful Bridgeport 48" table power feed, digital readouts, not worn out but minus the head for $900

The pinion is meant to be pulled up disengaging the rack on the ram if head is to be tilted on the J head round Ram, also J head round Rams came without the rack and pinion

I think the circumference of Ram is the same , mine has no adapter it is a 1955 round Ram

His doesn't have the rack and pinion mine does still should be able to move in and out easily with well-oiled ram
