Re: Should I disassemble my new 9729

Rmac has a great idea. It might really help with re-assembly and just might convince a few others these machines aren't really ready to go right out of the shipping crate.

Re: Show us your lathe!

Cast concrete lathe bench tops have and are still done today by some. South Bend even tested and then provided free information about the expected improvements and accuracy it can gain to people doing small sub contract work during WW II. I'd want to add some steel mesh and maybe rebar if I went tha...

Re: Should I disassemble my new 9729

Your Welcome. If you use a new maybe 2" wide cheap paint brush and a clean container large enough to stand the parts in. At the end on the job you'll see exactly why it's such a good practice to pull them apart for that solvent cleaning. That's a good analogy between ground prep, water, fertili...

Re: WTB Model Engineer back issues

NP, but my info still might be of use to anyone who doesn't already know about that. But that's exactly the same opinion I have and I'd bet for the same reasons. Digital is ok in a pinch if there's tough to find or get access to hard copy's. I still much prefer my large print Machinery's Handbook ov...

Re: WTB Model Engineer back issues

You may well want the hard copy's for your own collection, but fwiw and in case you don't know. Model Engineer offer digital subscriptions, so if it's specific articles your looking for within those two years , or if your already a current subscriber. That gives you access to there web sites digital...

Re: Should I disassemble my new 9729

In my opinion I'd definitely recommend it. These off shore machines are built down to a price point. There's really no extra left for any proper cleaning and de-burring. Even my more modest priced Taiwan built Bridgeport clone showed the need to do so. While I didn't find even a few ounces of grindi...

Re: Show us your lathe!

I hate the stuff and would have preferred even a good Birch/Russian ply for both layers instead. But I went with a double thickness of MDF on my bench tops. And laminated those 3/4" pieces using contact cement. Mostly my choice was made because it's flat, consistent for thickness and quite a bi...

Re: Tourbillon build

Thanks Ron, and good to get that feed back for what your doing & seeing as results. Those are details missing in his videos for sure. Maybe for brass gear teeth the heat treat can be a little off and still work well enough. But if your going to do this, then why not do so to the level you are fo...

Re: Gauge blocks

I'm not China bashing either. I'm being logical and using my own but still limited one single past experience with off shore gauge blocks. Just as Bill said, NIST traceable and at those prices is about guaranteed for sure meaningless. Lets face it, just how many buying those cheaper sets have the re...

Well I'm more than impressed Ron. Some definite Clickspring influence in those.:-) A great person to borrow from for what's already known to work and work well.

Re: Mounting a Z axis Dro scale on a full size mill.

With the way I'm reading your post this has to be for the knee travel right? That epoxy casting form could work, I think I'd want to cast some steel threaded inserts into it first though. Everybody's got there own methods that work best for themselves and what extras they have in there shop. Myself ...

LOL, you were reading my mind Bill. I know I've found a few extra options I for sure didn't think I was asking or even paying for. :-)
