Re: Tormach owners
i am the former owner of a real CNC machine shop where I had a FADAL 3016 and a Haas TM-1 with a 10 pocket tool changer and a 5C 4th axis and a heart attack. I had a heart attack in October 2007 at the shop. My heart attack lead to cardiac surgery involving 5 cardiac bypasses and an aortic valve rep...

I have a CNC mill in my garage. Can you send me a drawing or a sample part?

Re: Tormach owners
I saw that same report and I think the issue was how the guy was holding the part. I made a couple of suggestions and was told my the guy who put up the original post to butt out. Apparently he didn't think I knew what I was talking about. Maybe I don't. After all, I've only been doing this since I ...

Re: Good, cheap, material to practice with?
I would look for a scrap yard where you can buy aluminum solids for $1.00 to $1.50 per pound or go to some local shops and ask if you can buy some of theit scrap material. Don't try to machine composite material with high speed steel cutting tools. That's like trying drill a hole in a grinding wheel...

Re: Screeching Sound When Milling
I'm fairly new to CNC milling, although I have successfully made a number of parts now. I'm having trouble with loud screeching sounds during certain cuts. So loud I have to cover my ears. Using a 1/2" 4 flute carbide cutter on 1018 steel. Cutting a 100% groove at .1" deep. 2500 rpm, 25 I...

Re: Tapping Fluids
Most of the parts i tap are aluminum and for that I use Relton A9. I bought a gallon of it about 5 years ago for around $50.00 that I'm still using, but about 4 years ago, I walked into a supplier that had 2 gallons of it on a clearance table for $19.00 each. I'll give you 3 guesses where those are ...

Re: Tormach Rigidity
I heard once a standard Bridgeport, turret, kneemill should not run endmills larger than 1/2". Most of us have run larger endmills than 1/2" in a Bridgeport type mill. There is a big difference between running machine that someone else bought compared to running machines we buy ourselves....

Re: Kurt mounted sideways on mill
Another advantage to having your vise mounted perpendicular to the X axis is it will allow you to work in an X+ Y+ direction. When you're working on a CNC and back jaw of your vise is your Y zero, you;ll be working in a Y minus direction all the time. Not a bad idea till you have to make a manual Y ...

Re: Tormach Rigidity
I'm looking at the Tormach 1100. I'm wondering how it does at cutting steel. I've found videos that are impressive when cutting aluminum, but nothing to do with cutting steel. I'm wondering if the machine is rigid enough to use a 3/4" cutter on mild steel? I'm a little disappointed the machine...

Re: LED Bulbs for Fluorescent Lights?
The COSTCO "LEIT" brand LED twin-tube light fixtures work well and are BRIGHT! Cost is ~$38 per twin-tube fixture. I installed 12 fixtures in my new 24' x 52' garage/shop, and will add four more over the machine shop end. It feels brighter inside than outside! The attached picture shows t...

Re: LED Bulbs for Fluorescent Lights?
I bought 4 2 tube LED fixtures at Costco and put them in my garage. I don't think I could get more light if I opened up the roof and let the sun shin in. AND, there's no shadows.
