Re: Using wedge to remove a stuck mt3 collet chuck

Wedges would have been my first try, but not knowing whether the collet chuck is integral to the MT3 could risk detaching it and leaving the MT3 still in the taper. My Emco mills have a MT2 for tooling, and their method to remove them is with a jacking nut The splined portion of the spindle ends in ...

Re: Free and easy to learn 3D CAD

The only problem I have with this version of 3-D drawing program is that the license states explicitly that it cannot be used commercially. The edition where I could sell what I design is $600 PER YEAR! I could never sell enough of anything to pay for it. Who's going to know the finished parts were...

Re: Determining manual milling X axis feed ?

What you aren’t saying about your 6 sided mill is what type of material the inserts are designed for. Inserts for A-2 tool steel will be different than those for aluminum, or mild steel, or…..the carbide substrate and grind geometry will be different for each. You stated that your inserts didn’t fi...

Re: Determining manual milling X axis feed ?

DOC is not chip load...but your concept of inches per minute is correct. Ok ! So I'll have to fiddle with the speed dial on the X-axis with a stop watch to get the inch p/m. Chip load is how much thickness of material is removed by each insert as it rotates through, and up until you run out of hors...

Re: Determining manual milling X axis feed ?

Feeds are a function of tooth load and therefore a function of spindle speed, and cutter material and stock material... And machine rigidity and number if teeth in the tool. Ok, I understand how all those parameters effect each other, I'm going to use this example from a current project I'm doing u...

Determining manual milling X axis feed ?

There is plenty of info on the web regarding speeds and feeds for milling various metals, and I've been doing a deep dive in my down time to extend tool life and get better a better finish. The X-axis or feed info seems to be geared towards CNC where the sum of the formula for feeds, or X-axis movem...

FS - Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP Welder * SOLD *

The Lincoln 210 MP has been sitting idle for close to 5 years and it needs a new home. It’s been used on one or two small projects, not including my practice welding, so it’s essentially like new. It was bought as the Aluminum One Pack special package deal from Lincoln Electric that included the Mag...

FS - 8 -1/2" dia. slotted faceplate

I think it's a Atlas / Craftsman faceplate, in very good shape, bought to possibly use on my lathe but I decided that it's not going to work. There is a number cast into the plate 9-365, has a 1.5" - 8 spindle thread. Asking $45.00 plus shipping ( should fit in a medium flat rate box ) Paypal o...

Re: Pattern Making

Are you pouring the Freeman Fast Cast directly on a pattern in one shot to make a mold ? One thing you can do with the Freeman material to make a mold is brush the material on your pattern in layers rather than in a one shot pour, by brushing in layers you'll have less of a exotherm than one solid m...

Do you have any idea how expensive brass is these days? Sheeesh! Actually I do! I ordered a piece of brass from MMC at 6" x 6" x 3/8"....they sent me 6" x 6' x 3/8" :| God thing I didn't have to pay for the extra  Woah !! You ordered 6 in x 6 in x 3/8 in and they sent ...
