Well, I do know there is an open source locomotive on Thingiverse for Gauge 1. It's either a SW1500 or RS3. Pretty sure it is a SW1500. You may want to look there.

One thing I'd like to mention, is that we have several local shops with lasers and 2 with water jet cutters, but only one 3D printing business that is extra expensive. The GE 44 ton locomotives and others similar to it like the Southern Pacific narrow gage X-1, share fabricated plate trucks instead...

Hmm, robust machine. Looks like my Monarch 10EE has its first job lined up, if my Taiwan 12" lathe can't do it.

Some A36 plate, grind a treppening tool for the lathe so I can cut the centers out without waste, just turn them. Many options. DOM would be convenient.

I'll keep you in mind, those are much bigger than I need as my wheels need to be scaled 33" but price wise they may win out. I'm over in South Korea at the moment working.

Most cost efficient way to get steel tire blanks?
Working on my GE44 project and my cast iron wheel blanks don't quite have the diameter on them that I would like, so I'm thinking about shrink fitting some 4140 or other steel tires to them. DOM tubing? I wouldn't think I could find a size that I need. Flame cut from 1" thick plate? Pretty sure...

These castings will finish with a very wide rim width if you want. I actually just chucked one in the lathe just now. It turned very nicely on a 1,000 lb 12" Taiwan import lathe.
