also it helps if the part is warm, just heat it up to 150-200 F doesnt need to be exact, just opening up the pours of the metal, i usually take a heat gun and use that, this is done after degreasing and before applying the cold blue. i dont like acetone for degreasing, it seems to leave a film, i us...

things ive learned about shop saftey...... dont use shirt to clean moving parts, dont use drill to scratch head, dont use hand to clean moving parts, stand out of alinement of chuck while its on, dont flinch when a hot chip goes down your shirt (manuel machine), wear a face sheild not saftey glasses...

well... winding a new motor would be difficult for me, dont know too much bout how to do it, then theres all the little stuff that will get ya, i think i can pick up motor only off of ebay for around $50-$100... and i kinda need it soon, got some jobs waiting for it now, i dont use it too much for t...

Foredom CC motor,,, kicked the bucket???
hi all, got a Foredom CC motor that i was using today, (got second hand in a trade...) used it for awhile, didnt think i was pushing it, welllllll apparently the motor got too hot, and some ooze started to come out of the windings locking the motor up. this wouldnt be worth trying to save would it?

yup gonna be using this to make muzzle brakes at first, then ocotogon barrels later on.... thats about the extent of my plans for now, might make some gears later on at the need arrises.....

well... didnt like the idea of not having 100% power on the mill (running it off a static convertor). so i decided to build a RPC. looked and looked for a 3 phase 5hp + motor for cheap... finally found one at a surplus store here in texas. for $50 i picked up a marathon 3 phase 5 hp 220v motor used....

yup it scared me,,, took a day or so to sink in, but i cant see me ever doing it again. i got off real cheap... father-in-law knew someone who got pulled into a really big lathe and killed, wrapped him around the chuck!

well ill eventually pony up and buy the extra plates but for now 1/2 degree will have to work... wont be working on anything over 1.5" for awhile...

on finding a 3 phase motor. i might have a lead on a 5 hp 220v one. i picked up one used for $50 at a surplus electrical supply here in texas awhile back ( will be posting my build with it when done). they had some more. grizzly also has some 7hp 3 phase 220v motors for sale ($180?)...well let me kn...

ok just got an ellis dividing head with a buck chuck 3". 40 revolutions equal 360 degrees. So logically 1 turn equals 9 degrees. Keeping this same train of thought going... if i have the 15-20 hole plate, sooo 9 degrees divided by 18 holes equals .5 degrees... is my thinking sound on this??? an...
