Re: Shoptask owners?

I have never seen one in person, but I believe Shoptask called it the 'Electronic Thread Dial'. A sensor counts lead screw rotations and a series of LED bulbs turn on and off in sequence, much as a thread dial rotates to display a series of numbers. Most of what I remember reading on the subject inv...

Re: Need assisstance with a 3 in1 Central Machinery 5981

That looks suspiciously like a quick-change gear box on the bottom beside the lead screw. 7 positions? If so, it's the only one of these Chinese 3-in-1 machines I've ever seen with one besides my own. I wonder if my chart would apply to that machine. Attached is a pdf of the threading chart that cam...

Re: Tool Boxes

I don't think we've hijacked this thread enough. This pictorial should do it: How to unload a long crate with 42" forks. Step one, lift the end up high to make some room: https://picturehosting.verhey.org/Kubota/Splitter/02_make_room.jpg Step two: insert snowmobile dollies: https://picturehosti...

Re: Tool Boxes

My tractor with front end loader makes it possible to do work single handed that would be impossible otherwise. YEA! Forks are also incredibly useful -- I'm not sure if I use the bucket or the forks more often. Mine are smaller though. Again with the SSQA mount: https://picturehosting.verhey.org/Ku...

Re: Tool Boxes

Seriously, I don't have a clue what that is. Wanna give me a clue? I'm guessing that would mean "No". <lol> OTT is Orange Tractor Talks. It is to Kubota tractors as Chaski Home Machinist is to home machining. I probably would have been somewhat better served with that model, but the 6100 ...

Which one? Are you on OTT?

I have a B7100, and also a home-made boom.

As long as the bolt hole circle is the same, you should be good to go!

I was once a newbie too. In many ways, I still am.

Re: Need assisstance with a 3 in1 Central Machinery 5981

Ok, that's not a faceplate -- it's the flange you would bolt a faceplate or chuck to. And you are missing the compound. What is the OD of the flange? If it's 4", then this might be the one you need: https://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=1698 If it's 3", then loo...

Re: Need assisstance with a 3 in1 Central Machinery 5981

Most likely, the faceplate comes off and is replaced by a chuck, rather than bolting a chuck to the faceplate. Assuming what you are calling a faceplate and what I'm thinking of as a faceplate are the same thing. Pictures would help. On my machine (not a 5981, but Chinese) there are 4 bolts with the...

Re: Need assisstance with a 3 in1 Central Machinery 5981

It may be possible to upgrade, but may require swapping the lead screw too. Otherwise, if the internal threads are still serviceable, I would consider drilling and tapping the nut and making a new part to replace the broken bit. I would use a fine pitch thread and red (permanent or studlocker grade)...

1/8-40 and 5/32-32 BSW set screws

Years ago, I bought an assortment kit of hollow point set screws. Where the kit was labelled as having #4-40 it had 1/8"-40 (slightly larger diameter); where it was labelled as having #8-32, they were actually 5/32"-32 (beween #6 and #8). A check with the optical comparator confirmed the f...
