Re: Language on the forum (remember the newbies)
Don't forget... Some of the people are just starting out. In a "real shop" you could decide who to ask for help, and you soon learned who to avoid. But on this forum, everybody can take a shot at you. If you don't like newbies, give 'em a pass. SOMEBODY ELSE will answer them.

Reworking 9" SB tailstock KEY REMOVAL
I am making a lever action tailstock for my 9" SB lathe. Can anyone clue me in as to how to remove the spindle key? I've tried prying with a screwdriver and pulling with pliers. The stock I have is 1.063" O-1 ground and polished, but bore is tight at both ends. I think it would lap out OK ...

Ken, Thanks for the help. The1894 Pat refers to the ratchet, as yet, frozen on my mic. The 1896 Pat refers to something in the spindle I think. The document says it was not known to have been manufactured. But the exact Pat No date is on my mic. My mic looks JUST LIKE IT! The next Pat on the list fo...

How old is a Brown and Sharpe #10, 0-1" MIC? PICTURES ADDED
I've been cobbling together a "set" of outside MICS. They are very attractive bargains at today's prices. So, in a package deal, I got a Starrett 2-3", 3-4" OD,a Slocomb 4-5" OD, and a sweet little B&S #10 0-1" (.0001) I don't really need another 0-1 mic, but part o...

Re: Putting my chinese 4 x 8 table mill back together LUBE?
Well guys, thanks for the info. I do have way oil in my collection for my lathe. But I'm not sure how often it'll get lubed as there is no way to oil the screws, but to flip it over (heavy) or take it apart regularly. It is a Chinese machine! I guess I could reach under the way covers with an oil ca...

Putting my chinese 4 x 8 table mill back together LUBE?
I read a lot of suggestions about cleaning up a new chinese 4x8 mill. Mine was never done. So I took it apart. It needs cleaned up alright, but probably mostly from my own use. I've had it for years. So now the question. I know it must be cleaned up to reassemble it. But what is the best to lube it ...

Need help with home made power feed for mini-mill.
I've got a Micro Mark mini mill. I would like to put a variable speed feed/traverse unit on it. I have a toyota window motor and several 12 volt power sources. I've got several transformers out of old computer towers, and I've got a 12 volt converter from an old Coleman pop up that I recycled. I've ...

Re: disassembly of SB Cushman 3 jaw chuck--help needed
it's cleaned up and back together, but it's stiff. I didn't grease it. Should have. Also i had an average run out of .006". I made a post grinder out of my Dremel, spun the chuck as fast it would go to push the jaws out tight on the spiral, and lightly cleaned up the jaws to true them, and came...

Re: disassembly of SB Cushman 3 jaw chuck--help needed
Well, I've got it. The three screws in the back are holding in a plate. by putting in longer screws, and pounding on them in turn, I've got the plate coming out of the body, which on the outside at least, is one solid piece, except for the back plate. Thanks. I'll post more on the results latter.
