Re: Link and pin couplers in 2.5" scale

Thanks for the input, Glenn. I'm going to be casting these with a grade 8 bolt with the head integral to the shaft. I can see allthread breaking easily, the threads probably act as a stress riser right where it doesn't need to be. I may change the link core to something a little larger, I looked at ...

Link and pin couplers in 2.5" scale

You know how you can get a song stuck in your head? Same thing happens to me sometimes with an idea, and the only way to get rid of it for me is to run with it, and see if I can make it work. Got a message from a fella last night looking for link and pin couplers in 2.5" scale. Told him I didn't hav...

Re: Basket case 2-4-0

Glenn, my best guess (from what I was told about it) is that maybe it dates from the 40's to the 60's. No clue as to the original builder, and it looks like a one off, perhaps whoever built it had plans of some sort, and the drivers and cylinders were probably commercial castings. The boiler is weld...

Re: Basket case 2-4-0

It lives! Kinda sorta. After extensive frigging around with the timing, and retightening all the packing glands, it runs on air! Probably not perfect, but it runs! Now on to the next things, like building an axle pump.

Re: Recommendation needed for copper boiler repairs

There s a product called "Boiler Weld", it's a sodium silicate based liquid that has colloidal material in it, it's designed to be poured into a boiler and seals from the inside out. It's available at plumbing supply places. It's about $11 a quart. My actual application is that I use it as a binder ...

Re: T-frame Bettendorf trucks ****SOLD****

Dick, that was part of my thinking when I decided to do these, I am trying to make stuff nobody else is. That and getting filthy stinking rich off them. Ha ha. Of course, I have to manage to make more than a half dozen before I'm rolling in it.

Re: T-frame Bettendorf trucks ****SOLD****

Wow! Those turned out nice. I also can't wait to see them under a car! If my regular job permits (long hours at this time of year) I am going to try to do another production run starting this week.

Re: Basket case 2-4-0

Not the d valve, the slide block in the eccentric link. I may have my terminology wrong.

Re: Basket case 2-4-0

Almost had it running today on air. Almost. Really. Well, a half cycle, almost. I still have timing issues, the engineer's side seems okay, timing wise, but the fireman's side is still off, and I can't seem to get it dialed in. I read a few articles on timing, and watched a few videos, so I'm not ju...

Re: Basket case 2-4-0

Huh. Interesting. Bought some flare fittings (big box store), not sure if the assembled pieces will fit, so it might have to be compression fittings.

Re: Basket case 2-4-0

The fireman's side crosshead is complete again, made a new slide piece for the top and a new bushing for the pin. There is hardly any slop in the drive system now.
