Re: Steam Turbine Question

Hello Phil, RET, Just let me add some photos to show how a simple construction will do, too. Using a standard gear wheel (made of aluminium, if you can get) will work just fine  . The steam is directed tangential along the wheel and is exausted after about 90°towards the generous exaust. Force...

Re: Steam Turbine Question

Hello Phil, Maybe the air inlet should be much smaller in diameter for using steam. A diameter of about 1 mm (1/32") should be fine! In addition the outlet might be enlarged to reduce back preasure. For use with steam the simple ball bearing to be seen won't work for a long time, anyway. Working ste...

Re: My N&W class A 1239 (gauge 5", 1 in 10 scale)

Hello friends, We had a great weekend at Dresden :D . For the curves of the layout were a little tight for my A, I had it steaming on a roller board. Much better for the interested visitors to see her life directly in front of their eyes 8) instead down on the floor (so I think). We had her working ...

Re: Power Reverser questions

Hello Moron, Thank you for your precise information! For power reversers were not common in Europe, any information would help for better understanding that system. I used Steam Cyclopedia as basis for my model construction. And yes, the precise, small and low loss valve is the heart of the reverser...

Re: Power Reverser questions

Hello Tim, In case your reverser will work on steam reliable (piston rings, stuffing box and reverse valve), this maybe o.k. Of course, speed is increased a great deal in regard to work on water! Maybe it's getting instable or creaping, cause there is almost no damping in this simple proportional st...

Re: 3/4" Scale J1e

Harold, We (hobby) modelers can hardly match with such precision industrial products made by very scilled mechanics! The way I found (and which I recommend to other modellers) was to make simple tools  before starting production! Means a little patience ... And to use a turntable whenev...

Re: Disney American

Hello Jack, Just had a closer look to your topic Disney American for the first time. I mostly prefer 'Big Engines' , soory  ! But your work is Impressive as always! :!: Just wanted to note that the check valves you made were of the same construction as mine. They worked reliable for years with...

Re: 3/4" Scale J1e

Hello Jack,
Knowing so well making such sophisticated parts - by means of both patience and will! Nobody will see them again once they are mounted inside / under the locomotive. But you (and some modelers of course :) ) know - that's it, isn't it? 8)
Thank you for posting!

Re: Project: N&W class J on 5"gauge

Hello steamchris,
You and your father as team did a very fine job, indeed!
Just one look to that type of trailer, when it will be finished after some more work. We are happy, both classes A and J hadn't their trailers been equiped with a brake
Carry on!

Re: My N&W class A 1239 (gauge 5", 1 in 10 scale)

Hello my friends, After some necessary shop work on my other locomotive DB class 44, there is time again to continue with the A. For we intend to run a famous extra long freight in may with a 44 doubleheader on the point 8) , the 44 had priority until the end of year 2018. She is on steam again :D !...
