Re: How to "Clean Up" Satin Finish Aluminum???

I do have access to both course and smooth media cabinets, and this is certainly worth a try. Thanks.

They were not tumbled and everything you see was done on the big CNC mills; first a Fidal, then two different HAAS. I had been to the shops several times.

How to "Clean Up" Satin Finish Aluminum???

I had a machinist make a bunch of aluminum spacers, and he did less than a stellar job on the finish. The fact that he dropped the box (45 pieces), certainly didn't help. It is a brushed satin aluminun, and I believe the finish is obtained using a "scotch brite" tool. This shows one on my website: h...

Re: GE 44 tonner

I think that some people are confusing "scale" with "gauge." This is partially because the way in which the question was worded. Perhaps the OP can clarify which he has in mind.

Re: Mill Chatter Fixed.

The original quill on my ShopTask ran quiet. The replacement chatters as described.

Comes down to fit and the original was "hand-selected" from who knows how many, whereas the replacement is just taken off the shelf at random.

Re: Table Is stuck

I have no idea if this is related to your issue, but once the table on my ShopMaster got stuck. I was using the power feed for the first time and when the table hit the 4-1/2" mark (11" of travel), the table jambed and the spline shaft snapped. (Typical Chinese unit where the scale WAS 1-1/2" off ce...

Re: Railroad Speeders or Putt Putts

Ther are a couple families my my garden railroad group that have speeders. I think the group run from Fillmore to Santa Paula (CA) is fairly common.

Re: Brand Names, Model #'s, of known Lathe, Mill, Drill 3in1

I have a ShopTask Tri-power fitted with manual, power, and CNC feeds, and a Jenix DRO. Biggest problem with Chinese machines is that they are all "hand-fitted" with off the shelf parts. Break a part, and chances are that the replacement won't fit properly because you didn't have 500 on hand to choos...

Re: Need Drawbar or Print for EMCO Maximat Compact

I don't know the details of you emco, but you can certainly buy a "generic" replacement and size it accordingly. These are plentiful on ebay. Just search for "mill drawbar."

Re: Clutch / Shear pin for Smithy Midas ?

I use a 50 amp Gould 2200 contactor, located inside the machine, that has its armature wired to the wall outlet before the power reaches the on/off switches for the mill and the lathe (separate switches on separate motors). So if the contactor is open, no power reaches the machine motors. The added ...

Re: Clutch / Shear pin for Smithy Midas ?

On a related note, The first time my table went beyond it's limits using the lathe with the power feed, it snapped the spline shaft. The table is marked 5-1/2" in each direction from the center and it snapped the shaft at under 5" in one direction. (The other direction goes over 6" from the designat...
