Re: How Would I Bevel a 6" Piece of 1/8" x 1" Bar Stock Across Its Length?

I made a jig of wood to hold the two pieces in alignment for drilling in the press and the holes came out perfect. I test mounted it and it is hardly visible. The angle is so gentle that I really don't need to worry about the alignment of the bolt heads/nuts. http://www.audioheritage.org/photopost/d...

Re: How Would I Bevel a 6" Piece of 1/8" x 1" Bar Stock Across Its Length?

I don't think it is a matter of a defective bracket so much as compensating for a misalignment of the existing parts. The alternator seems to have a bit of an inward cant because the surface that it mounts to (the header's flange) has a bit of an inward cant rather than being parallel with the cente...

Re: How Would I Bevel a 6" Piece of 1/8" x 1" Bar Stock Across Its Length?

No, because the back edge is curved to match the bracket it goes under and if I predrilled it then milled it, I probably coudn't get this curved edge to align perfectly. Once the metal is thin, it is a simple matter to match the back edge with the sander. Next time I will secure both pieces to a woo...

Re: How Would I Bevel a 6" Piece of 1/8" x 1" Bar Stock Across Its Length?

I made another out of 1/8" think aluminum this afternoon, though I still haven't drilled it. I used the same technique as before except that this piece was longer than necessary, so I could cut off, rather than grind down, where the ends were attached during milling. That saved a whole lot of time a...

Well, unfortunately the shim was destroyed when drilling the hole though the thin end when the bit grabbed the material and twisted it around.

Re: How Would I Bevel a 6" Piece of 1/8" x 1" Bar Stock Across Its Length?

The mounting hole through the alternator's body that the bolt goes through seems to be a bit off rather than perfectly parallel with the centerline of the engine and this is try to compensate for that. There is a slight "hump" in the black bracket between the posts that I will try to press out with ...

Re: How Would I Bevel a 6" Piece of 1/8" x 1" Bar Stock Across Its Length?

Thanks guys. All done except drilling the two holes. I clamped it at its ends using the the two medium clamp bars on one end and the two short clamp bars on the other. The difference in height between these bars is about the same as the bar stock thickness. Then I just ground down what was left on t...

How Would I Bevel a 6" Piece of 1/8" x 1" Bar Stock Across Its Length?

I want to put a beveled shim between the F-Bracket and its mount to angle the altenator outwards a bit. In its current configuration, it has a bit of an inward tilt. Looking at the photo, I want to place a 6" long piece of 1" x 1/8" strap iron between the black bracket mounting the alternator and th...

Re: Speaker selection switch, and more than you wanted to know!

Very nice. I too am a big JBL fan with L112s, modified L200/300s, Ethyl Mermans (JBL 2241 18"/ JBL 2251J 10"/Heil AMT), Altec Big Red Supers, Chartwell LS3/5As, and RSL 3600s. I built my own remote controlled (key fob) A/B/X speaker switching system, with both line and speaker level matching, but us...

Re: 3-in-1 Advice Needed from the Experts

Both machines are by the same company with the difference (e.g., # of motors) by generation. you can go to the Shoptask website and they have the history of their machines. I have the Tri-Power with manual feed , power feed , and full CNC control and 3-axis digital readout (Jenix DRO). https://www.s...

Re: How to "Clean Up" Satin Finish Aluminum???

Looks like this may be the overall best option and Harbor Freight has the best prices on it: https://www.harborfreight.com/50-lbs-medium-grade-armex-soda-blast-media-65929.html https://www.armex.com/products/maintenance They also make a 220 grit specifially for giving aluminum a satin finish (turbin...
