Re: Long Island RR museum

Hi John,

I have a few photos of the G-5 in Strasburg.

But, I'm only about an hour away from there, so I can take some more the next time I'm up there. I'm not sure what the museum people will say if I'm trying to crawl underneath it, though!

Re: READING CAMELBACK 0-4-0 CASTINGS FOR SALE

I bought one of these from Dave back in the '80s. It runs like a scalded dog and will pull quite a load.

The price is very reasonable.

Thanks for bringing it back Dave!

I still want a spare set of crossheads and I need the sand dome for mine.

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy 4012 in 1.5"

Richard, yes i considered doing something similar but I'm using pre-hardened and ground bar stock for my axles which means further machining is not an option. Instead I've drilled a fill hole in the top of the journal box and a drain hole in the bottom, that way i will be able to fill it with oil, ...

Re: Seeking engineering drawings for B&O 5306

Interesting that Bruce Hamilton's P-7s haven't been mentioned. Bruce passed away almost 9 years ago. He built a pair of them in 1.6" scale and finished them in the early 1980s. I've run the 5300 many times. The 5300 was sold to one of Bruce's best friends sometime in the '80s. When he developed majo...

Re: Kozo K-27 build thread

Kozo's cylinders are built up brass/bronze like everything else he has made. There aren't patterns available.

200 pound melt capacity would make a lot of cylinders.

PS, I have a pattern for the proper drivers. With the counterweights.

Re: Drive Wheels - Order of Operations?

I have machined dozens of drivers. Personally, I start on the front side. Driver castings are best set up in a 4 jaw chuck. I grip them about 1/8"-3/16" deep in the jaws. Use a scale (ruler for the non-machinists) to get the back side of the wheel parallel to the face of the chuck. Take your time. A...
