I agree with Harold and Richard and will add that given clean parts, only a light smear of flux is required. On blind holes that are more than one diameter deep I will drill a small hole at the blind end to let the solder 'out'. A hole .03" diameter is enough...

For most things, especially winding, wire must come off the reel/coil as a straight line, not off the end like a Slinky. Otherwise the twist will catch up with you!

Dianne, you want a filter of the density used for gas welding, no denser. I have a face shield with a green ... well, shield... I use for gas welding and brazing. I wear spectacles so this is easiest for me.
