Re: Crosshead Guide Material

I've noticed that some of the 'big box' stores that sell lengths of steel of various types and sizes are selling 'angle' and 'channel' that are nothing more than sheared sheet metal braked to an angle or channel. Finding the small hot rolled angle and channel seems to be getting rare.

Re: Was there ever a NG SW1 or 1200?

NG is limited to the D&RGW X-1 and similar, or the 44 Tonner and other similar locomotives like Glenn posted. What is your goal? Wider train on 7-1/2" gage tracks? The size of 2 1/2" scale (on 7 1/2" gauge) is what we are looking for and will not follow a specific prototype since the look of the SW...

Re: Was there ever a NG SW1 or 1200?

'Thanks for all the data. The MR "Diesel Locomotives" was ordered and being studied - good advice. A small switch or transfer 'diesel', using hydraulics is what we are leaning toward. The RMI Transfer Locomotive is ideal but we wish to construct the locomotive - but as things are, it would probably ...

Re: Brass strapping material

This is the reply from McMaster-Carr they don't have anything close. But thanks for the tip. Tom Sorry, looks like you needed the precise size. Usually a given thickness sheet is ordered and the exact width you need would be sheared or snipped from it. These suppliers can provide the shearing servi...

Flu kills thousands each year. Right now 8 times as many people are in the hospital for the flue (strains of Asian, Swine, etc.) than there are confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the US. The virus is more contagious, similar to the common cold - sneeze in the face or nearby and you have a cold, almost ...

Re: Core Boxes: Why were they usually made before the pattern?

How can you build a stable for a horse if you don't have the horse yet, or have never owned a horse? This is similar to: which way would you fit: the rod to fit a bore or the bore to fit a rod? Well, maybe not so parallel questions but both in the same light; one way is hard to do and the other way ...

Was there ever a NG SW1 or 1200?

Hello,
Not 'live steam' per se but: Was the SW 1, 1200, etc. ever produced for use on a 3' narrow gauge system? And: where can a set of basic dimensioned fabrication drawings be found for the same standard gauge locomotive?

Yep, that's him! Thanks for the current link, I mistakenly thought this was a new video with some data that Dave was just letting out but it is still worthy of another watch.

Re: WHEEL TURNING PART 5

Today I finished the wheels. I made the contour tool from high speed steel. I used a foredom grinding tool to grind the form into the cutter. Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rom1hFj8R5o Next the axles. Dave, Your video shows up as "Video Unavailable" - now the suspense is killing me...
