Something about this problem seems inconsistent. The OP said that the problem occurs when the thread dial is aligned but if he moves the carriage either way a little bit the nuts will engage. Unless there is excess backlash in the thread dial moving the carriage to engage the nuts has to mis-align t...

I have one of these lathes with a shop=made apron feed wheel. The rack and gears appear to be commercially made. You will probably need a reduction gear to get the feed rate low enough to be useful. It is a doable project but cutting the gears and rack requires quite a bit of skill and rather precis...

Being thrifty (cheap) I would probably try using a 1/4 inch square tool bit. I would grind one end round for a distance of about 1/4 inch. Then drill a hole for the round end to pilot in. It seems to me that making the parts to adapt the Servo drive would be a great project for a beginning machinist. You would not have to do any machining on valuable parts. You might also be able to repair the BP drive but it might not be practical unless you know someone who could help you with the ...

Re: Vacuum tight container of corrugated steel roo

Somehow I don't quite follow this discussion. If all the formed tubes between two sheets are under vacuum, why is sealing between the tubes necessary? How will the open ends of the tubes be connected and sealed to the other parts? Folding and soldering should take care of the closed sides. Also, any...

Re: Kick starter question....

Cushman motorscooter engines used a sector linked to the pedal so that it would swing out to engage the pinion. Pedal stayed at bottom while running. When lifted by hand to start the sector would drag the pinion but the links allowed it to move out of engagement. Hope this helps.
