Can anyone give us a brief synopsis about the MG&W such as overall length, overall change in elevation (photos show quite a climb above the roundhouse), max. grade, bridges, etc. I'd love to know more.

Scale rail vs. Functional rail
Loco 112, I'd like to offer a comment or two towards your desire to have "scale" sized rail. 1. The full-size factor - Our "miniature" track is often subjected to "full size" loads and impacts. As such, if I were designing a significant 9", 12" or 15" gau...

Link to some nice photos of the MGW RR
All,
Did a quick search for "Mesa Grande Western Railroad" and found the following link to a nice collection of fairly recent photos of the line.
Enjoy!

House Damage
Andy, So sorry to hear about your home damage and the effects on your family. My laptop doesn't have audio so I didn't get to hear any of the details. Hope your daughters injuries aren't too serious although it would have scared me pretty good if that came crashing through my ceiling in the middle o...

Jim's UP Northern
Scott, I know it's a little off-topic, but you should brag on Jim's beatiful UP Northern and especially his scratchbuilt centipede tender. It's about the prettiest UP 4-8-4 out there running. I believe it was featured on the cover of Modeltec years ago, too. How does it handle his 5% ruling grade? I...

David Moore's Challenger
Dave,
You said this is a freelance 4-6-6-4? Really nice looking work. Looks like a little more plumbing is all that's needed to see that engine run. Has he used any commercial castings or did he make his own?

Pilot truck centering
Daz, A 4-wheel pilot truck will work in much the same way as the 4-wheel trailing truck but with the pivot point in the geometric center of the truck. The truck bolster really never moves out of position except for slight rotation or pivoting that occurs when the truck turns as it negotiates a curve...

Trailing Truck rockers
Darren, These rocker systems are laid out on an arc whose center point is the pivot point of the truck (works the same for a 2-wheel or 4-wheel truck) with a rocker on each side of the frame at the rear, just behind the rear wheels. As the engine starts into a turn, the rear of the truck wants to mo...

articulated controls
Moe, Sounds like an interesting little articulated! I talked with Andy on the phone tonight and we discussed the steam distribution. Your easiest method of steam distribution is one set of branch pipes coming out of your smokebox from your throttle. Outside the smokebox on each side would be a "...

Moe,
I've seen your posts regarding your 2-6-6-4. Is it a freelance design or does it follow a particular prototype like the N&W?
Sincerely,
Rob Gardner

Spring Steel
Curtis,
I checked at Home Depot and Lowe's and neither carries a snake with 3/4" wide material. As I recall the ones they had were more than $50. Do you have a make and model number, by chance, of the one you bought?
Thanks in advance,
Rob Gardner

Frank Seville's C&O Hudson
I've seen a couple of photos over the years of a 1.5" scale C&O Hudson built by Frank Seville. I think he was from the Chicago area. I know I saw a photo of it at the Deerfield and Roundabout RR as well as at the Comanche and Indian Gap RR in Texas. Is it still being operated today or packe...
