Re: Me and my son

I have various tools that I have bought at estate auctions or garage sales of some old machinist or mechanic that has gone on to his final reward. When I go to such a sale, I always try to buy some piece that will have a memory attached to it. Somehow I feel the spirit of the former owner passed on,...

Re: Newbie from Norway

Somewhere I have a link to plans for building a power drawbar using a cheap butterfly impact-one of those projects I've never gotten to- but like Wayne said, for that price you probably can't even build one...

Re: Replacing the collet alignment screw in a Bridgeport spi

Or just forget about it. I had the same problem several years back, & was pretty much convinced by the guys here & on another site that the alignment screw is unnecessary... I did go into it like Dmaxx is describing, but didn't have a new screw so I just reground the point of the old one. Didn't eve...

Re: A Compact Shop-Made Rotary Broach

Is that .150 total wobble or .150 eccentric on the shank, which would make .300 wobble? Sure wish that I could have posted the drawing instead of trusting to my defective memory. Just went out to the shop and measured the shank eccentricity, it is .100 not .150. Sorry for the misunderstanding. The ...

Re: How to transport a lathe

Good advice from the other guys, I would add double emphasis on the high center of gravity...I know of at least 2 nice lathes that were buggered up bad from being dropped off a forklift. I have actually moved my 12"Craftsman lathe 3 times by myself w/o an accident, but it's not a load like yours...t...

Re: Starrett milling machine vise.

Starrett had a milling vise listed in one of their catalogs a few years back. I have never heard of anyone having one, but my assumption would be that if it has the Starrett name on it, it has got to be good. Can anyone confirm or condemn my belief? They were listed as 4", 6" and 7", model no's 124...

Re: Not Bad At All For They Who Take So Many Negative Remark

I bought one of those on-sale cordless drill-drivers at HF...it worked ONCE...literally less than a minute...I took it back & used the money for a utility cart & a garden hose. The cart works great, the hose lasted one season...

Maybe try TWO drops of blue Loctite if one tiny one isn't doing it? I've never really found Loctite to fail...
I realize that's too simple a solution for a machinist forum, but hey keep it simple, right?

Re: Dave Johnson Mechanical Magic Passes

Sorry to hear that, I didn't ever interact with Dave, but I remember his name & tag line. As someone just told me about a friend of mine that passed 3 years ago, a loss to one of us is a loss to all of us...
