Re: Steam Locomotive model drawings

Daris, Tom Rhodes designed the Allen Models FN 34. There was a construction series in Live Steam magazine. Gene Allen designed the Allen Models American, Consolidation, and Ten-Wheeler. I designed the Allen 0-4-0 and built the first one. Also from memory the Chloe was drawn up by Gene but based hea...

New 36" vintage flared tender kit from Allen Models

Allen Models is happy to announce the fourth laser cut tender kit in our new series, the 36" vintage tender. This is a longer flared tender that will work with any Allen Models 1 1/2" scale engine as well as the Fitchburg Northern, and is now specified as the default tender for the Allen American. L...

Re: Re-light an oil burner

BBQ lighters will only work with propane, you need a lot more heat and flame to ignite diesel.

I recommend a handheld MAP gas torch to get it going. A propane torch also works.

One bottle will last ages.

2.5" scale 7.5" gauge speeder (SOLD)

The perfect Christmas gift! I am selling my custom built 2.5" scale 7.5" gauge electric speeder. It is bigger and taller than a rail rider supply speeder and much more powerful. It seats one adult and one child or two teenagers or three 7 - 10 year olds. It features dual deep cycle marine batteries,...

Re: Gene Allen's model engines

The single-cam factory engine is now in my possession thanks to the generosity of Gene's son and daughter in law. It is a beautiful model that I will cherish always.

Re: 2.5" scale "Fulton" 4-4-0 castings now available from Allen Models

How close is this Fulton design to the Eureka of Dan Markoff? According to Curtis Ferrington, although the same 8-18 series, the Eureka, Sonoma etc. were larger and heavier than the engines made from plan #9 like these. Although I am sure these can be adapted to produce a reasonable looking facsimi...

Re: Fire to crown sheet distance

For Marty Burners / Locoparts / Solarflo burners, they need as much head room as you can give them, put the manifold down at the mug ring. The commercial burners are designed for 18" of headroom for complete combustion, but they obviously do work in our locomotives regardless. Slot and hole burners ...
