Re: OT: Building in isolated location

ed and Bill and pete-- Invaluable advice! Thank you very much. There were many issues and tips I had not considered. Pete , the truck will pull that hill with ease; the trailer and equipment weigh no more than 7,000lbs. I regularly pull almost 14k lbs up that grade when I've got the Komatsu skid ste...

Re: OT: Building in isolated location

All-- The internal garage door for my shop is up! We will finish the install this coming Monday. That means I need to bring my machinery down from KC to The House on the Cliff . It is a little over 250 miles. The last mile and a half is over my driveway, the first mile of which varies from ok to not...

Re: OT: Building in isolated location

Harper and Harold and Tom-- Harper , 2mm a month is what I've heard, as well. On the house project front, when I get that interior garage door up on my shop, I'll post a video of the finished area. I am really eager to get my machinery installed. Harold , I hope you get sorted out! Harold and Tom , ...

Re: OT: Building in isolated location

All--

Thank you, again, for all the well wishes!

Tractor Supply is everywhere here in the Midwest.

On tangentially related news, my wife (younger than me) announced her retirement today. That means we will soon take up permanent habitation at the House on the Cliff.

Re: OT: Building in isolated location

pete--

The only difficulty I'm having with those fingers is picking up small stuff . . . I can't tell if I've grasped that little washer or not.

I can work around things like that. No problem.

I am depending on help from here when I get ready to move! For sure.

Re: OT: Building in isolated location

All-- The shop is nearly complete. We started installation of the garage door, yesterday. This door is located inside the garage. It opens off the drive-through bay of the garage. I needed a big door to get stuff in and out. I thought about a garage door and a man door and decided I didn't want to w...

Re: OT: Building in isolated location

Russ, Russ and spro-- Somehow, I missed your well wishes. :( Thank you for thinking of me and I am doing very well. The surgeon took more xrays at the two month mark and said he was surprised to see that I had healed more in two months than he expected in 4 to 6 months. The removable cast was remove...

Re: LED Shop Lighting

All-- Thanks to discussions on this forum, my 2000 sq ft garage and shop is all LED (as is the house). I have four 8' strips over each of the three bays--each bay has its own switch--and 10 eight foot strips in the shop controlled by three switches. I bought them from Home Depot. They were $79 each ...

Re: Drilling holes in rocks - Help

BadDog and Russ and Bill--

I read the "grease the bit shank" in the manual. So I took the bit I had selected over to the Komatsu, found a journal with some high temperature (I use red) grease oozing out, rotated the shank in it, smoothed it with my finger and called it good.

The new Makita SDS Plus makes holes in rock. No problem.

Thank you for the help!
