Re: L.E. American & tractive effort?

One of our club member had one that did not pull much. I always wandered if the tender trucks had ball bearings, and thought it would pull better if the tender rolled more freely with the engineer on it.

Re: Piston valve ring blowby

Are you sure it is blowing by the rings? I would suspect the valves may not be seating. Are the valves D-valves or piston?

IMSE Fall Meet

Attached are links to pictures and a video of the Iowa Model Steam Engineers fall meet September 13th. At the beginning of the video is a work train that had to go out and clean the rail. We had a hydraulic drive engine break down and coat the left rail with oil. Everyone stopped and cleaned the rai...

Re: Blow down valve problem

I would take some 400 wet dry sand paper and put it on a flat plate or pain of glass. Then lightly hone the body the valve sides on and the valve to get a good surface. On mine I took a small section of stainless steel spring and put between the valve and the arm it rides in. This give it just a lit...

Re: Building Track by Lester Friend

When the Iowa Model Steam Engineers was doing research to build a highline at our new location, some of the East coast clubs sent me some pictures of their slip switches.

Attached are a few pictures that was sent to me.

Re: Portable elevated track ideas

The highline that the Iowa Model Steam Engineers has would work for a portable track. We purchased the left over from the St Croix live steamers.

There is a write up in the Best of Live Steam volume 1.

Re: Quartering drivers

I use the method to broach the driver 45 degrees ahead and behind center so the axle can be the same on both ends. This way you do not have to index the axle 90 degrees to cut the key way.

Re: 3/4" Kozo A3a Side Rods Tight

The quality of your work looks top notch and on the video they roll very smooth when they are on the correct side. I would put them on and be satisfied. On my last engine I had to do this to get it to roll smoothly and never looked back. Now that it is finished it is a good running engine. Wayne Iow...

Re: Mini Blowdown Meet at Montreal - VIDEO & PHOTOS

Nice camera work on the video. Toward the end, how did you get the video moving along side the long train? Were you walking beside the train with the camera? It was still with no vibration.
