Re: a live steamers ideal locomotive to model

My engines are CB&Q R1 262 Prairie and a subsidiary of the Q a Keokuk and Western 460. The 460 will use Winton Mogul drivers and Friends Models Pennsy A3 cylinders.

Re: Xrad's Northern

Steaming Don the former Little Engines line of small engines is advertised in Live Steam now as The Locomotive Works. I have not ordered anything from them, but I am told they are working on getting the business up and running.

Re: Mt Pleasant Steam Show

The Iowa Model Steam Engineers has a track in Mt Pleasant but it is not at the steam show growns. It is on a farm outside of town. There is a member that brings a small straight track to run his engine on but is just out and back.

Re: 3.5" Gauge Track Facility

Marty our last track at Scottie's could only be ridden side-saddle because of some trees that were to close. At our current track site you can do either. Some of our members that ran on our old track still like to ride side-saddle. Most of us have switched to straddle though. I think it is much more...

Re: 3.5" Gauge Track Facility

The Iowa Model Steam Engineers has a 3/4" and 1" highline that is 650 feet long. Check our web page below for video links of the highline.

Re: Finally getting started on a coles 0-4-0

The Coles 040 was my first engine. I made it into a tank engine. If I had it to do again I would make the boiler smaller diameter than the plans. Seems to big for 1" scale more like 1 1/2" narrow gauge. Attached is a picture of a friend running it years ago.

Hi Ben Below is a web page that I have on our Iowa Model Steam Engineers link page. It give the recommended tolerances for different sized O-rings. I used this on my 1" 280 to get the right size grove for the piston. It has bronze liners and works great. Wayne Davis Creston, Iowa Somewhere in the mi...

I have not pulled the heads or taken the pistons out yet. I don't think this is a problem except I think I have a ring that is stuck in the piston. I had some water left in the cylinder and got a small spot of rust on the bottom of cylinder a couple years ago. When I pulled the head to remove this s...

O-Rings in Cast iron cylinders

I would like to ask the list if it is OK to put O-Rings in the pistions for an engine with cast iron cylinders. I have used them in an engine with a bronze liner and like the way they worked. It is time to do an overhaul on my 1" 040 and I was thinking about switching it to O-rings rather than the c...

Hi Ben

The pony truck looks great. I hate it when work gets in the way of making chips!
