Or, use two dies, one adjusted wide for the first cut, the other for finishing. Move the finishing die to the rough side when it is too ragged for the finish cut.

If you have the means, pump oil into it until you can see where it comes out. Oil will not be harmful for a short time where grease was intended, and grease can be pumped in afterward if that's what you want to use. Some shafts and bearings are better off with grease.
