Re: Vacuuming grinder dust
I put a 'Dust Deputy' from Oneida Systems on my shop vac and pick up a lot (many pounds) of grinding dust, chips, rust, abrasives etc regularly and not the slightest hint of problems. I was skeptical of their claim of keeping 99% of particulates from ever reaching the filter, but I do believe it is ...

Re: Having endmills sharpened
Carbide cuts quite freely with the correct diamond saw. Its not like grinding away 1/2 inch.

Ha! Saw that heading and thought he was getting married. . .
Na, that would've been 'condolences'.

Re: Garbage Score: 2HP Treadmill Motor
Steve, I was speaking from direct experience. The motors I screwed up were all the same brand, appeared to be well constructed and were NOS Icon treadmill motors (I think the brand name was SUD, with oomlauts over the U). This was just 3 years ago too. They ranged from 1.5-3 hp. I took the armature ...

Re: Shop video monitor
I had the same concerns. About 18 months ago, HF had a 'sale' on a two-camera wired Bunker Hill security cam with a 5" monitor. For the $60 it cost me, I have a camera on the shop floor and one on the back door of the house. I have a computer in the shop and stream the shop cam to the internet, so I...

Re: Garbage Score: 2HP Treadmill Motor
Steve, a couple of things hard-learned: 1- 'treadmill' horsepower is not 'real' horsepower. They're rated with a pulsing load and it equates to around 1.3 - 1.5hp for your motor. 2- Do NOT remove the armature from the motor unless you push it out with a steel or iron 'keeper' slug of the same diamet...

Re: How should this face mill register on the arbor.
Is that arbor tapered or straight? If straight, couldn't you simply grind down the end of the arbor a bit? That probably wouldn't hurt it any for use with other tooling.

Re: NPT Pipe Threads - another can of worms?
. . . I can physically feel a taper but . . . A standard pipe taper is quite visible, even pronounced. I suppose pictures can be deceiving but that sure looks like a straight thread. The fact that the thread crest and depth match the relief at the top lead me to believe that if it is tapered, the s...

Re: Soruce for 1 3/16", 1/8 wall square steel tube?
I think you're going to have a hard time finding that. My supplier has a very good assortment, but nothing in 1/16ths except for the smaller solid rounds.

Re: Plasma cutters 101
I've owned a Hypertherm 600 for a long time and I love it! My neighbor has a Thermal Dynamics of similar capacity, and he loves that! Hypertherm claims to have the longest-lasting consumables, and they do hold up very well. You MUST use dry, clean air or nobody's consumables will hold up. I paid aro...
