Re: Kudos to Eccentric Engineer

Thank you for the shoutout Jim! The two major design improvements are the hex in the combining cone (no special tools required to remove it), and the bottom cap. On a Penberthy, the lower cap has a thin wall that shrouds the delivery cone and is designed to be crushed the first time it's tightened i...

EE Production Schedule

Hi Everyone,

I've added a production schedule to my website, which can be viewed here:
https://www.eccentricengineer.com/production-schedule

The large injectors are going to be ready early July. The decision to make 2 different delivery rates has certainly added to the manufacturing time!

80” Boxpok drivers in 1” scale

Thought I’d share a project I did for a customer. These are 80” Boxpok drivers modeled from GS-4 drawings, to be used on a 1” Canadian National K-5a Hudson. At one point in their life they had Boxpok drivers, which is what my customer wanted to model. 100% machined from solid discs of cold rolled st...

Large injectors in production

Hi everyone, Just a heads up that I've been working on the large injectors and they should be ready in about a month. It occurred to me today that the 6.5 pint nozzles for the 2.5" scale Monitors will fit nicely (with some modification) in the Large injector body. So, to open this injector up to a w...

Re: Nathan Monitor Injector in 2.5"

Personally, I would be interested in a set with functioning water valves. Curious if anyone else would be interested in a functioning water valve? Mind you this would bring the price to $1800. New core mold, more parts, more testing, and likely a higher scrap rate of the main bodies. But if it's so...

Re: Nathan Monitor Injector in 2.5"

If the water feed tube to the injector gets warm like you describe that can certainly cause a slow lift. A long overflow pipe can also cause the delay

Re: Nathan Monitor Injector in 2.5"

I have been away at LALS and Train Mountain the last two weekends giving the new monitors a good workout, and I took some videos that I will post a bit later. On our models the engineer sits a couple feet away from the overflow rather than a dozen+ feet, so it's very easy to hear the difference betw...

Anthony, when you say you used a triple-lead thread, is this the same as a thread with three starts? In other words, one turn of the handle moves the valve a distance equal to three times the thread pitch?
That is correct.

Re: Nathan Monitor Injector in 2.5"

Tim, The steam valve is 3/16” OD with 3 leads at a .075” pitch. Doesn’t really show on the spindle but you can sort of making out 3 leads on the chamfer of the yoke. Forgive the dirty fingers! Nathan Monitor Injector in 2.5"

I started designing the 2.5" Monitors back in August 2014. I figured they would make a nice dummy body on a locomotive I hoped to build. Well, going through Nathan drawings and looking over model injector designs, this project grew into a love for steam injectors that got a little out of control. I'...
