Re: GFI - Home Electrical Wiring Question

I have no problem understanding the operation of the GFI circuits. I just did not know that the entire garage circuit ran through the outside GFI outlet. I'm also not surprised of the code, but I still recall many tails of GFI problems on circuits with HD motors, even in the kitchen with the refrige...

Re: 4-Jaw Run Out Question

I fail to understand the reasoning about the chuck face running true or indicating the clamping surfaces. It's a 4 jaw the face could run out an 1/8" and you could still dial a part in to with in tenths. I have used 4 jaw chucks on which the clamping surface was tapered over a 1/8" from f...

Re: 4-Jaw Run Out Question

Unless the jaw is loaded (as it is with the inspection of your three jaw), indicating (the jaw surface) is, for all practical purposes, a waste of time. The reason being that the jaw will assume a different orientation in relationship with the slides when it's loaded than when it's relaxed. As the ...

Re: 4-Jaw Run Out Question

Well, perhaps I tend to look at things from an idealistic point of view. As has been stated, what is being experienced is to be fully expected from new machinery. I would not have expected that. I just like to measure things and try to figure out why or what is happening. Doesn't always work.

Re: GFI - Home Electrical Wiring Question

Well, this house was completely rewired a couple years ago. Anyway, I found another GFI by the main breaker, behind my shelving stacked to the ceiling full of boxes and what not :| So that GFI feeds all the outlets in some sort of daisy chain, and the outside GFI would not reset because of no power....

GFI - Home Electrical Wiring Question

I'm renting this place and went out to the garage to find all the outlets without power. I could not find a blown breaker, but do recall that I tripped a GFI on an outside outlet a few days ago. First, I suspect that all of the garage outlets feed through that one GFI outlet. Does it sound right tha...

Re: 4-Jaw Run Out Question

Well, I had a bit of a fluster and have not the energy to indicate my 4-jaw, mostly because it is not mounted and I have another problem captivating my interest right now, but I did indicate my 3-jaw with a long end mill...

Re: 4-Jaw Run Out Question

only because I like to measure things... I wonder if you've indicated the chuck face? And then I wonder if there would be any useful info gained from indicating the jaw clamping surfaces, by running an indicator along the axis, maybe measure the jaws, make sure they are parallel and what not? so now...

Re: 4-Jaw Run Out Question

well, what happens when you tighten the jaws?

I'm not an expert, but I would probably snug it up, bump into place, snug some more, bump as needed, and tighten it. If your dialed in, then your done? If you're back where you started, then :?:

Re: Proper use to of Telescopic gauges

I did grow up with a traditional, formal education. One of my friends went off to study Latin, which at the time I could not appreciate. How things change.

Re: Proper use to of Telescopic gauges

gage is an American variation of the proper gauge. There is no genuine linguistic distinction other than the other definitions.
