Do a 'froogle' search for 'dom tubing' Lots of hits and places to look. DOM (Drawn over mandrel) tubing is very popular in the race car world for both suspension parts and roll cage material and is very weldable. DOM is measured by true outside diameter and wall thickness. Pipe is for gas/water/liqu...

Dave, check at the local Lowes or Home Depot. My local Lowes stocks a metallic tape. It may be in the section with the furnace duct fittings.

I weld a big washer on the end of the key handle. Makes it a lot easier to turn the key. I also have a studs welded nearby that I hang the keys on so I don't have to go looking for them.

I got a ASME 80 gallon tank from a dealership that probably ran it constantly for 20-30 years. When I cut it open it probably had 3/4" of gunk (looked like 500 weight sludge) all over the bottom but it suprisingly had very little pitting anywhere inside the tank. Its like the sludge protected t...

As a hobbiest new to this game it seems to be a wash for me. Cutters are the least of my expense. ENCO sales, ebay, CDCO, etc for them. I destroy mill cutters faster than I wear them out. Clamping work is my biggest learning curve right now. Lots of money (for me) put into each of the machines. If y...

Based on what I pay for steel/aluminum from places like Speedymetals it looks like you have a fortune there. Particularly the aluminum.

I scrounge things like angle iron, small pieces of sheetmetal, etc. It all sits under my deck. You can never have too much 'scrap stuff'

I just got finished installing a 3 axis DROPROS unit on my RF45 clone. Came with all kinds of brackets and cap screws. I am very happy with the look of the quality of the glass scales, cables, and head unit. Time will tell from an operational standpoint. From a mounting standpoint I'd bet they are a...

Lots of good ideas so far. Before I'd pay someone $900+ to move a piece of equipment I'd invest in a gantry crane or make one. Engine hoists, come-a-longs have their place too. I have done the anchor in the back of the garage trick and use a winch on the front of a 4x4 to pull disabled cars up the d...
