Re: New HF mill on the way to me

They let you touch it. You have to feel pretty good about that. Yeah, there is that. If having it re-delivered on a liftgate truck is stupid expensive (driver was saying offhand something like $100 or so... kind of steep, I thought), I may just go to the terminal (about 30min away) and have '...

New HF mill on the way to me

http://www.harborfreight.com/1-1-2-half-horsepower-heavy-duty-milling-drilling-machine-33686.html Caught that on sale for 800 about a week ago, stacked a 25% off coupon with it, so it came out to 600 plus tax and shipping. Since ordering it, I've started accumulating the required tooling to go with ...

Re: 20T Hydraulic Press Springs?

Can't imagine it's a critical spec. Just as long as the two are equal and strong enough to lift the cross bar and jack, and not so terribly strong as to risk breaking the fasteners holding them. I suspect shortened garage door springs (or the previously mentioned hood springs) would work well. But, ...

Re: 20T Hydraulic Press Springs?

Would this be the Harbor Freight press? Orange one? I'll measure mine when I get home tonight.

Small world. I see you're local.

Re: New to form and Milling in general need some help

I have the same HF mill/drill coming Monday. I think the others have covered it. Maybe a set of parallels too, so you can clamp smaller items in the vise? According to HF, it comes with a drill chuck and a face mill of some sort. Beyond that, I've ordered R8 collets, assorted HSS end mills, a hold-d...

Re: Big lathe

There was a sizeable lathe on the local craigslist a while back... probably not THAT big, but I want to say something like 4-6 foot swing.

Re: Newbie considering a lathe purchase. Help narrow the lis

FWIW - 30% off Enco code 84THR good till 11PM Eastern today only. I bit on the 12x36 I saw where PeteH posted that coupon code this morning. I've never seen them run a 30% off deal til now. I'd have been sorely tempted to get the 12x36 for that price too, if I hadn't already spent the money on the ...

Thanks. I didn't get that one for some reason. Code worked though, ordered some stuff for my new mill/drill.

Re: Newbie considering a lathe purchase. Help narrow the lis

I keep looking hard at the Grizzly G0603 10x22 and G9972Z 11x26. About half the price of a 12x24/12x36. But they lack some of the features of the bigger ones. In any case, I'll think about it. A lathe purchase is being delayed a while... I just happened across what looked like a fair price for a new...

Re: Newbie considering a lathe purchase. Help narrow the lis

I saw a good deal on a SB 9 ($800), new ad posted just hours before... I emailed, no response. I get home and look again, ad's gone. :(

I'm thinking it's down to an import 12x36... either Enco, Grizzly/Shopfox, PM, or Eisen.

Re: Newbie considering a lathe purchase. Help narrow the lis

Of course now I say I'm ready to get an import, there's a Clausing 10x24 that has come up for sale nearby ($1500). Of course it would be at a time that I'll be busy and unable to go see it for the next few days. Still kind of leery about buying a used one, not knowing enough about it to identify pro...
