Re: The random things we find

Thanks for trying . we know what it is now so its a win :)

I've noticed its a lot easier to say " throw that junk away ". Then it is to actually do it .
As an inveterate tinkerer random junk is handy to have around .

Re: The random things we find

I don't think I could live on a boat . when they are moving it can be rough as heck and it doesn't bother me at all .
Soon as the boat stops moving even the slightest rocking makes me sick within minutes .

Re: The random things we find

Growing up there there was a fellow who lived about 2 miles away that was into steam whistles . the first weekend in June he hosted a meet every year . The sound of 50 or so various steam whistles sounding off for two days was an odd thing to hear in rural Ohio . Earlgo. If he has any interest send ...

Re: Peerless power hacksaw

I have a few brazed carbide blades I've been saving in case I have to cut something hard .
Probably a pretty common item back in 60's. Not so much now

The random things we find

I've been doing some clean up trying to make room to buy a new lathe , found this guy in a pile of stuff . I know where it came from , my dad worked for the rail road back in the day . But with bad blood and not haven spoken to him in 30 years or so I have no clue how it ended up in my junk pile . S...

Re: Peerless power hacksaw

Thank you , but I think I have a lifetime supply , I took a handful of blades in to Salem saw to get sharpened and when I picked them up they multiplied by about 100 .
They was sitting around collecting dust and the fellow told me I looked like a good home

Re: Peerless power hacksaw

Thanks for the pics , I think the green was the primer they used . I found a few traces of it on mine as well . if mine was grey it was a few shades darker then what was on your saw . I still can't tell if it was a grey or dark blue . Wish I could put your door to good use , but mines in good shape ...

Re: Peerless power hacksaw

Coolant wouldn't be impossible to do , just not easy . If I'm cutting steel I'll pull the saw closer to my mill and use the fog buster on it . It does help but still isn't nearly as effective as cutting oil would be . Aluminum doesn't seem to care .. I have a 6tpi blade I put on , hit it with some g...

Re: Peerless power hacksaw

Boy they really knew how to make stuff back in the day , I tore the saw apart yesterday to get started on the cleaning and paint prep . everything is in great shape for being 100 years old .
I found one bronze bearing that probably should be replaced just because I have it apart .

Re: Peerless power hacksaw

I could go smaller on the motor , just not enough to matter . If I'm doing the math right and the drive pulleys I have on hand work the transmission will give me a pretty decent working range of roughly 31 strokes per minute in first gear and 84 spm in 5th gear . that'll get me slow enough to cut th...
