Re: Flea Market Score

It is mine now, gifted to me, cleaned and calibrated on my surface plate. Made by ER watts & Son who stopped trading in 1920, so it is more than a hundred years old. Resolution is 0.0005" per 10", almost up to the Starrett 199 standard but good enough for me. Housed in a robust Bakelit...

Re: Counterfeit calipers

Recently bought a pack of Bahco hacksaw blades which were cheap online.
First stroke of the hacksaw the paint peeled off and the blade jammed in the cut, no set on the teeth.
100 blades in the rubbish bin!

Re: Mitutoyo caliper not working

My 27 year old 6" is still working perfectly, the 8" 6 year old failed due to a black screen, not worth repairing.

Re: Mitutoyo caliper not working

Try removing the screws on the rear under the sticker and clean the circuit board with contact cleaner and reassemble.
Never had this problem with a mitutoyo, only the cheap throw away calipers.

Re: digital readouts Amazon sells

Hi Guys, installed a YH Sino DRO on my lathe, the cross slide glass scale is the much smaller in width than standard scales so minimal loss of tailstock movement which I brought back to factory specs by making a longer tailstock Quill. I have shortened glass scales with minimum fuss, milling out a s...

Re: Caterpillar Spherical Bearing.

Install the inner race.
Kurtis showed the earlier type bearing which is cracked 180 degrees apart, easy to fit inner race.

Caterpillar Spherical Bearing.

Hi guys, just watched Kurtis at CEE on youtube installing a Spherical Bearing, interestingly the outer race has been cracked in one location assuming to install the inner race but there would not be enough yield to install the inner race.
How do they do it????

Re: Differences in Quick Change Tool Posts

I have a CXA piston type QCTP and have absolutely no problems with it, locks well and maintains centre height on my tool holders.
A lot better than my old turret tool post and no more shims.

Re: C0630 Lathe Restoration Shanghai 11th machine works

Hi Harold, you say roundness is a function of the headstock bearings. My lathe has 8/10 of a thou runout measured in the spindle taper and on the D1, 4 external taper. I took a very light cut on a piece of 2" aluminium bar and measured at different locations on the circumference and measured wi...

Re: 11" Rockwell Lathe Apron Handwheel Issue

The bed is low, wear on the ways and saddle?
Has the bed been reground?
If so you need to machine off the top of the apron to achieve an acceptable mesh with the rack and pinion.
Turcite on the saddle might be another option.
