Re: taiwanese lathe spindle

I've been headed toward saying it is a 1-7/8" x 8 since this thread began, but the measurements seem a little all over the place. I'm also not convinced that the spindle thread is a 55-deg form just because an 8tpi Whitworth gage settles in. The pitch gage photo leaves me feeling much as with t...

Re: R-8 Collet Set

Yeah, that's just the nature of the game with lower cost Asian equipment. While you might never find the manual you're hoping for, you will find many others with the same -- or very similar -- machine to guide you. Your machine looks to be of the RF-45 ilk. The Grizzly equivalent is g0755 , Enco is ...

Re: Hardinge dsm 59 question

A Hardinge Taper spindle nose is not an L00 type. That's a totally different standard. Here are the manufacturer instructions for a Hardinge Taper type: http://www.shophardinge.com/assets/docs/B49spindles.pdf

Re: R-8 Collet Set

A few clarifications and corrections. What is shown above is not an ER collet holder. The collets are visual equivalents of TG collets, but I've heard rumor that sets like these which don't specifically mention "TG" are not interchangeable with the standard. I can't confirm or deny this ru...

Re: Travers HSS dies?

Steve, man, what are you stressing out about? How many sizes are really needed, anyway? Hmmm... #8, #10-24, #10-32, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16. Okay, seven dies. Or maybe you're metric... 4, 6, 8, 10, 12. Five dies under 1/2". If you run into a 3.5mm or #6 during a project, big deal. It's a one...

Re: Travers HSS dies?

TTC is a real toss up. For example, I ordered a number of Morse taper shank reamers a couple years back. I have a nice, floating reamer holder that uses them, so they are useful to me. ...They're also not the most common items. So the different sizes were a mix. Some were borderline scary (Serbia Mf...

Re: L&W dividing head

it doesn't have the tail stock though. could a man get around without one? or find one at a decent price? Really any of the tailstocks made for a similar swing rotary table or dividing head should work. I say that because just about every one out there is completely adjustable in height and angle. ...

Re: Spline cutting.

Good of you :D
It would be hard for me to believe the 3/4" cutter couldn't cut an 1/8" deep spline. That's just a guess, but wouldn't you agree?
