Re: Peerless power hacksaw

I'd have to do a jack shaft of some sort , the big pulley on the saw is already 12 inches , I'd have to keep going bigger to slow cutting speed
I have the transmission , its no harder to rig up then a jackshaft and step pulleys .

Re: Peerless power hacksaw

I've scraped it in a few spots , there is paint there but I'll be darned if I can tell what color it is . might be a dark grey or a blue . And thank you , other then being absolutely filthy it is a nice saw . it works so good I am starting to feel guilty about not cleaning it up sooner .

Peerless power hacksaw

I've had this peerless power hacksaw for a few years , I use the snot out of it . It cuts way faster then my horrible freight handsaw . and it makes a square cut . Mechanically its tip top . works perfect . But it needs cleaned up and painted . anyone happen to know what color it should be ? There's...

Re: Thinking about cnc

I plan on using fusion 360 , I'd like to think I have good color vision . But worrying about icon colors is about as low on my consideration list as it can get . That's just one of things that would have to be dealt with if it comes up . Tormach sure knows how to put the pressure on , offering quite...

Re: Thinking about cnc

I have given some thought to the controller . The pathpilot tormach uses seems to be rather user friendly and very capeable I believe it is Linux based . And other then some minor quibbles I can't find anyone who has anything bad to say about it . You can take a virtual tour of it on tormach's site ...

Re: Thinking about cnc

Oh man , there are so many reasons I want to go cnc it's darn near impossible to say why . The learning something new aspect is there , I like to learn and I enjoy a challenge . Production isn't a goal , strictly hobby . But I do like the idea that I could duplicate a part simply by running the prog...

Thinking about cnc

Hi guys & gals I've been gone awhile , had some health issues And then some other issues . But it's all good now . I haven't done much out in the shop for the last year or so because of that And I've been thinking about going in a new direction . I think a small cnc mill is that direction . I've...

Re: Electronic Leadscrews?

Way back when I first got my grizzly g0602 I remember reading somewhere about a fellow who had converted his to an electronic lead screw with some sort of tone ring On the spindle and a stepper motor on the lead screw . I tried to find it again but came up with nothing , my memory doesn't go so far ...

Re: Engineers really know their stuff

In the late 90's I worked at a limestone quarry in n/w Pennsylvania . The job site had a relatively new to us very large dragline operating , the engineers made a few very bad choices with the machine that didn't end well . First bad choice was the decided to short ballast the machine by some 2500-3...

Re: Slitting saw

I've tried making slits with the shaper. My little Logan 8. Is fairly rigid for a small shaper but if you make one false move that thin little tool breaks real easy .

Re: rings in work piece

When I got my lathe I knew absolutely nothing about machine tools . I didn't know a thing about cutting tools and I had zero budget left after buying the lathe . So I bought a box of the harbor frieght brazed carbide tools and a box of assorted hss blanks . In short order I had chipped broke or othe...
