crucible furnaces are fine for iron casting. Clay graphite crucibles are fine for iron melts. Silicon carbide is just more durable than the clay graphite. Your welcome. I have only use it a couple of times but it did give the aged look I wanted. I just used off the shelf ammonia from the local drug store, nothing fancy... try a test piece like you were planning to see if it gives the desired results. Put the wood in a bag, then add a swatch soaked in ammonia in it and let it sit a few hours....presto aged oak.

John, If you made a mold that you could use to cast about 10 at a time then the resin casting would go very quick.there are tints to color the resin any color you would like.
