Re: Passenger Train Update
Why the blue lighting instead of regular incandescent lighting. Does it make it easier to see?

Tapered vs Straight Tire Treads on Drivers
A friend of mine is machining some steel tires for his one inch scale northern. At his home railway he has standard little engines 5/8th's high aluminum rail which has a flat profile. He is wondering if he should machine the tires with a tapered profile or a flat profile? What would be the pro's and...

Re: Back to Black Y6b
Chris, Is there a reason you had to convince you father to paint the engine? Did he like to keep it unpainted to show off the beautiful machine work. I think it will look more like a real engine once painted. Without the paint it looks a bit like a giant unpainted brass HO model. Is it a common prac...

Re: Controller questions
CP4449, Sorry I didn't realize the Syren 25 was not DEscribe compatible. I am also using the Sabertooth 2x32 on my future projects. I have gone though all the manuals and feature wise it seems to be the most flexible. Its the only one that allows you to freewheel the motor under a custom user mode, ...

Re: Controller questions
I assume there is no gradual ramp of of power either. If you went to full power it would do so right away. If I were you I would spend a few dollars on a good 5 volt USB to TTL serial cable. Like this one that Sparkfun sells. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9718 You can then hook up the board to y...

Re: Home Railway Journal - relaunching in 2014
Unfortunately I think its a subject thats just a little to niche. Live steam as a hobby relative to the rest of the population is fairly niche and then a magazine not about club tracks but just about backyard railroads in the live steam hobby is even more of a niche market. Eventually you just run o...

Re: German Locomotives in the USA
A questions for our German friends. Why was it standard practice to paint the running gear and bottom half of the locomotives red. Was this for aesthetic reasons or does it make cracks easier to see or something to that effect. Did Germany ever experiment with oil burners or was it coal right till t...

Re: Controller & RC for 3/4" scale Box cab
Correct me if I'm wrong but the OP stated he is looking for Radio Control and not a tethered controller. As far as I can tell Roy Stevens does not have a radio control version he sell. All his control/sound systems are tethered. I went to robotshop.com and put everything in the cart that you would n...

Re: Controller & RC for 3/4" scale Box cab
I would use a Syren 50 motor controller from dimension engineering. I have used there sabertooth controllers on a couple of projects and they work GREAT! They are much cheaper in price than the competition but the quality is still there. Also by default they are setup to allow radio control operatio...
