Re: Proof testing cable clamps
Oh no! I was thinking again. Any reason to not use chains? Either lifting/tow or drive types? Then you could rely on bolts, shackles, sprockets etc.

Could you use a big eyebolt and torque the nut to pull the force you need? Not being an engineer I can't say what the torque should be. Perhaps among the calculators here. https://www.engineersedge.com/fastener_thread_menu.shtml This one from them might do it. https://www.engineersedge.com/calculato...

As good as Tractor Supply may be, according to their website they don't ship to Canada. That doesn't do the original poster (RSG) any good as he lives in Ontario. Great for you gents under the 49th though.

Re: Bench grinder questions
Many wood turners have gone to CBN wheels and run them without guards. Too wide for them. Since they are made of steel or aluminium they don'y fly apart but that still leaves you vulnerable to getting tangled up in them. The wheels are heavier so the turners usually use a 1hp grinder, 1800rpm being ...

A machinist in the plant I worked in became so sensitized to it he was hospitalized and then off work for 6 or more months. Within a week of coming back and wearing a mask when working he was off again. Workman's Compensation pensioned him off. He couldn't even come into the plant for a visit withou...

Without a particle counter how do you know the air is safe? Particles under 10 micron are not visible and go deepest into your lungs. There are lots of under $50 particle counters available that would confirm it.

Deodorized kerosene has the stink removed and it is used for oil lamps etc. If you have one of the candle making supply craft places nearby they will likely sell it. You can also use her favourite scented lamp oil if you don't want SWMBO to gripe about the stink. A gallon of deodorized on Amazon cos...

Re: Rookie Lathe Soft Jaw Questions
The centre punch mark would do it but then it dawned on me some Loctite would work too. That makes the soft jaws fabrication method easier and safe too.

Re: Rookie Lathe Soft Jaw Questions
"Soft jaws are done. I decided to make the keys loose instead of part of the jaws as in the original drawing. That made for a little less milling and a little less wasted material."
What keeps the key from coming out of the jaw during use?

QCT has a full range of stuff for machining. Cutters, holders, bits measuring tools, etc. All the goodies KBC and the like have and for me they have it within a day or two for pickup.

Re: Way oil!....outrageously priced!
Just checked online with Quality Cutting Tools (Western Canada supplier of tools and machines) and a gallon is $30.38Cad for a similar product. Shipping would be on top but they are 20 minutes away from me. :) https://shop.qct.tools/catalogue/product/1248078 There still are some places that are not ...
